Hello, this is my first post here. I have trying to conceive for 2 years with no luck. I finally went to another doctor who agreed to try Clomid to help with ovulation. I did 50mg with first cycle which did not work and he gave me 100mg for the next one which worked. I had 4 follicles, my progesterone levels were normal but a few days later, I got my period. The pregnancy test came back negative.
I am scared to start next cycle of Clomid because I had awful side effects (bloating, water retention, weight gain, stomach pains, no urination, etc. etc.). I am still not feeling too good even though I am not taking the pills. I am disappointed that the pills did not work. I am also terrified that I have to try these pills for a long time and not know whether it will actually work.

Has anyone had similar experiences and what did you do to deal with it? I feel very stressed and it is not helping with my fertility.

TCC:
1cycle - Clomid 50mg - August 2016
2cycle - Clomid 100mg - August 2016, ovulation, not pregnant

Its not recommended to be on Clomid for more than 6 cycles, so I wouldn't worry about having to be on it for a long period of time. The side effects are horrible (I had terrible hot flashes, ovary pains etc), but if its helping you ovulate it is doing its job. Do you have PCOS? An alternative to Clomid that's a little easier on your system is Femera.

Yes most doctors won't go past 6 cycles. You could ask about Femara (also called Letrozol). It's much easier on the body and I've been told people who have no success with Clomid, have better luck with Femara. I was never on Clomid but my experience with Femara was great. I didnt have any side effects. It shortened my cycles and I got pregnant my second month taking it. Of course everyone is different thought. Good luck with TTC.

My fertility specialist reminded me that even if I ovulate, it's not a guarantee that it'll end in a baby. 80% will ovulate, but only 50% will get a BFP by 6 cycles on Clomid.

Hi
I have taken 3 rounds of 50,100 & 150my of clomid, I did not get bfp . The side effects are horrible but hang in there and don't give up.

I've had 5 rounds of clomid which produced ovulation all resulting in BFN's myself. I firmly believe that OH's poor sperm quality has been the actual issue rather than my PCOS. The first cycle I was on Clomid (50mg), I and my doctor realized I had a luteal phase defect with late ovulation and so my dose was upped to 100mg and I was also prescribed 200mg of progesterone to take after O to give my body a few more days to allow for possible implantation.

After trying two rounds of clomid, my RE changed to to Letrozole/Femara and got my BFP that cycle. However ended in MC, but that doesn't mean it will happen to you. Good luck!

Thank you so much ladies for your responses. This is all new to me and it helps to read the forum and hear similar experiences.

I am still waiting to start my next cycle of Clomid. If it is going to be really bad again, I will ask to switch to another medication.

For some reason, I am still feeling bloated and uncomfortable after my period stopped. It's like the effects of medicine are still there. Maybe it is in my head

Hey girl,

I am on my first round of 50mg Clomid and I had some side effects as well, water retention, bloating, weight gain, acne. My doctor informed me that it is important to take a month of in between each clomid cycle, not sure what your doctor said but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Ally B,

thank you for the info. My doctor did not tell me much. I spoke to the nurse who said I can come back when I am ready. I decided on my own to take a break because I was not feeling too well taking the meds. I am glad to hear that your doc recommended to take a month off. It makes sense. I would not be able to handle this without taking a break.

Good luck with your cycle!

What dosage did you get preg on ? and when did you take it?

I believe it was 2.5mg and days 5-9

I can't remember dosage exactly but when I was on it it was starting on CD3 for 5 days. Wonder why the different days and how doctors come up with what days? I got pregnant my second cycle on it..only because I missed O the first time cause I wasn't sure when I was going to.

The difference in days depends on the person. when I was on day 5-9 I O around cd17. I was put on clomid for day 3-7 this round. waiting until Monday for my scan.

Hey girls! I hope you don't mind me sneaking in for a quick post on the ttc#1 board! It too me 3 rounds of Clomid for a BFP. I HATED taking it and the side effects seemed to get worse. I was ready for a month off but luckily I got my BFP. I was prescribed by an OBGYN, I consulted with an RE who recommended no more than 4 rounds of Clomid and then to try a few of fermera. It can take a couple with no fertility issues up to 12 months to have successful conception so don't put too much pressure on yourself that you didn't get a BFP the first try. Also make sure to temp and use OPKs to help time intercourse. Good luck and hang in there! The TTC#1 forum is the BEST forum on BnB. I miss the support and love and always lurk to see how everyone is doing. XoXoXoXo
