Hi Everyone,

Haven't posted on LTTC before, but could really do with some support. Bit of background, I'm 32, DH 33, non-smokers, healthy etc. We've been TTC for about 2 years. All blood tests for me have been fine and it has been confirmed I'm ovulating although my cycles are a bit irregular (26-31 days). The only revealing abnormality is DH SA which has come back twice as 3% morphology, all other values normal. They were done 3 months apart with no change. I also have quite a significant posterior cervix, I am also quite tiny with a BMI of around 17 - seemingly genetic as Sis the same, I never put any weight on however hard I try.

So we were referred to an NHS fertility specialist and we've just come back from the first appointment. He doesn't see there really being any problem, says he's not concerned about DH morphology results as borderline, and my bloods all fine. He said I need to have a HSG x-ray and an ultrasound and then he would see us 3 months after that as he said often the HSG will clear people out and they will fall pg. Say's posterior cervix should be no issue. If there is no abnormalities on u/s or HSG then we have to wait another year before any further treatment (IVF).

I'm just a bit worried, firstly about HSG, but I also thought they might intervene with further treatment sooner due to morphology issues. Can't believe we have to wait another year potentially. Great that he doesn't think there's too much of an issue but just wondered if anyone else has been in a similar situation with the NHS and what the outcome/treatment was? Also is the HSG awful?

Thank you ever so much for reading.

Hey there,

I actually just had a HSG done a few weeks ago and my best advice to you is to take some tylenol before you go. It was strongly recommended to me before mine and the day of my appointment I was in such a rush that I forgot. For me, it was mostly just embarrassing because you're exposed to two people while they work on your lady parts lol. They insert a small balloon into your uterus (which I barely felt) and then they insert the catheter(again, didn't feel much). When they put the saline solution in, my doctor warned me that hearing the squishing sound tends to freak people out so he told me to focus on something else. There were a few little cramps, one really big cramp (once the uterus is full of saline) which was the most painful part but it literally lasted only a few seconds. My doctor even showed me the results right away which was great. Take a pad with you because some women do bleed with this procedure and the ones they give you feel like diapers lol.

I have been seeing a fertility specialist for months now and the process can be very frustrating especially when they don't share the same sense of urgency that you do (and very clearly yours does not). If you are not happy with the length of time that the dr. is proposing, pipe up and mention something. If you're still not satisfied, maybe it's time to shop around for another doc.

Best of luck!

Hi. I am currently with fertility clinic. My oh sa was fine. Its me who has problem. Diagnosed with congenital adrenal hyperplasia and recently started taking steroids to reduce my testosterone levels.

At my 1st appt in june they sent me for hsg and as ap0107 said above its more about getting ur bits out then anything else. They told me they would call me back in3 months and I left the rm crying as didn't think would have to wait that long. But as soon as they had my bloods bk and hsg I got another appt.

I supose they didn't mention chlomid as u are ovulating. I'd be suprised if your hsg comes back fine they will make you wait that long. I'm surprised they wouldn't start with and iui.

I hope they do more sooner for you but like you said it's good that overall you are both well and ok.
