First period or not??

Sorry this is a bit of a gross question but i thought id ask-
I had my first baby nearly 6 weeks ago, )normal birth but with a bad tear so lots of stitches)
the bleeding had slowed right down and a few days ago had stopped completely, to the point I didn't have to wear a pad for 2 days, it was awesome!
Then yesterday morning I had tummy cramps, went to the bathroom and found bright red blood again, and since then it hasn't slowed down and obviously I'm having to wear pads again

Could this be my first period, or is it because my post birth bleeding has started up again?

Most likely it's just PP bleeding. It can start and stop and start again for up to ~8-12 weeks PP. If you'd gone a week or two in between I'd say it could possibly be AF. Are you BF? If not, you can probably expect af around the 6 week mark [with or without a break in PP bleeding. Personally I bled for 21 days varing from heavy to spotting] then had a 15 day break and then af came. My DD is formual fed though so that is the reason it returned so quickly.

He was breastfed for 5 days and now is formula fed. he will be 6weeks tomorrow.

I had a bit of cramping the day it came on, but nothing since.
Hoping it is AF so I can get back to a normal cycle
