Well hello all, I was told that my lo is breech and he might not be able to turn back around because of his size. So if he isn't turned around by Thurs. I will be scheduled for a c section my first one(4 naturals) and I am nervous and worried...Can he turn around at the last minute? and what happens during and afterwards?..plz and thank you all!!

Hi!

My first was a c-section because she was breech. They tried to turn her (worst pain of my life) they would get her turned half way and she would wiggle and move back to where she was. They scheduled my c-section for 39 weeks and 5 days. You get there a few hours early and aren't allowed anything to eat or drink 8 hours prior. You get put into a room for your pre-op. They will re-check babies position, take your blood, put an iv in, the doc will come explain the procedure, the anesthesiologist will come explain the spinal, and they will do your vitals. Your OH or support partner will be given scrubs to wear and they will have you change into a gown and blue hair net. You will be taken back to the or ( I walked since I wasn't in labor). Your OH will wait outside while they give you the spinal. They numb you first before inserting the needle. Once you are laid down your OH comes in and gets to sit next to you. There will be a blue curtain, so you won't see anything. they will check to make sure you are numb and then start the procedure. It took 30 minutes from start to finish. It doesn't hurt but you definitely feel them pulling on you and on baby. They will weigh baby and clean it up and then hand it to you and OH. At this point you will be stitched up while baby and OH go up to the nursery. They will take you to recovery and in recovery they bring OH and baby back to you so you can nurse (if that is your plan) or just hold baby. You spend about an hour in recovery and then get taken to your room. you will have a catheter placed when you are already numb.

Sorry that was a lot. A few procedures or events may be a little different depending on where you live, but both of my c-sections were that way. Hope I helped. :)

Hi there,

My c section wasnt planned but I can tell you what happens afterwards! They will try and get you to move as soon as possible, and my advice is do it, try as much as you can without pushing yourself too hard. I dont know how long they keep you in hospital for in the US but over here in the UK they keep you in hospital for 3 days. I had to have clexane injections (to stop blood clotting) but it was all pretty ok. I did need extra help at home for at least 2 weeks.
My only disappointment was that I barely got to see my LG for the hour or so afterwards but a lot of that was more because it was an EMCS and I wasnt very well.

I stayed for 3 days with my first. I stayed 4 days with my second. 3 days is the normal though here in the USA. Definitely agree with the other poster. WALK WALK WALK... did I mention to walk? lol. I was miserable with my first and I did everything to try and not walk. My second I forced myself to make as many rounds as possible and I felt back to my normal self at 2 weeks.Make sure you update us when your little munchkin is here :)

My little boy was born early. I had him by emergency c-section. Not trying to scare you, i have a high tolerance to pain/drugs, and it hurt so bad. The medicine did not work for me at all. I even moved myself over to the bed by myself, after pain meds. Everyone is different. But, if you feel something while they are preparing you, tell them before they make the cut!

My hubby had to go to my babyshower(day after delivery) and i became bored. I rearranged my entire hospital room. Lol So you may be ok the next day or you may hurt. Just dont overdo yourself or the pain will hurt more. Best of luck with everything. I hope your little one turns!

I had a c-section a fortnight ago as my little girl was breech. I was really nervous (I'd previously had a natural planned home birth) but I needn't have been. The doctors/nurses were very caring, kept everything light hearted in the op theatre, put nice music on etc. The spinal block was ok, a bit scratchy but it was more the thought than anything. During the procedure I didn't feel anything other than a bit of pressure on the top of my tummy and once she was out I was so distracted everyone talking about the new little bundle I really didn't notice what was going on! I had plenty of drugs put in during the section which covered me the rest of the 24hrs. The day after was the worst time for me - I was worried about walking, catheter coming out, first wee etc Getting out of bed was tough and I was put back to bed for the rest of the day to try again later. A goodly dose of oral morphine seemed to sort me out and I gingerly managed it. The next day I went home from hospital. Recovery is going really well. The most painful thing has been getting out bed but apart from that the wound is healing nicely etc. Just remember to try and not do too much - easier said than done with other children at home I know but just take time out when you can. Hope that helps. :flower:

Def try to get out of bed and move around within 12 hours or so, it will help recovery, make sure someone is with you when you try ( I nearly passed out). Take all the pain meds offered post op, don't be afraid to ask for a repeat prescription if you need it. Take a pillow to hospital with you, hospital pillows suck!
