hi ladies. i have a question. this is my first time breastfeeding and just need to get some advice.

my daughter is currently two weeks and latches on like a champ. i seem to be one of the mothers who experience an oversupply of milk. i feel so bad because 10 minutes into feeding, she may cough or gag. i believe it's called a letdown of milk? i can never tell because i don't feel a difference in my breast. sorry if that sounds stupid!

i currently have her in the "football hold" position when nursing her.

mothers who have the same issues - what did you do to better your nursing experience when dealing with an overflow of milk?

I have over active let down in my left breast so sometimes I'll hold my daughter in a sitting up position I read on Kellymom that it helps them control the amount if milk they swallow at a time. I never tried it at that age though my daughters almost 6 weeks and can hold her head up so its easier.

A piece of advice I received in the early days was to latch baby, or use a pump to get the milk starting to flow, spray the first few seconds or whatever into a towel or cloth (or cup if you don't want to waste milk) til your letdown calms, and then latch baby on.

Give it a few weeks, and this shouldn't be a problem for you anymore as your supply will settle down to just what baby needs, plus baby will be bigger and more able to cope with it all. :flower:
