(Apologies this is so long!)
I am currently on maternity leave from local government and due back in October and back in Easter had a meeting with my line managed over returning to work on a part time basis. I wanted this meeting early as I needed to confirm childcare arrangements etc. my line manager offered me the opportunity to drop my hours on a temporary basis so I wouldn't be contracted and that there would be no issues with my proposals. He followed this up with HR and I heard no further.
In June I wrote to my line manager confirming the temporary arrangement and a return to work start date, HR confirmed I had nothing further to do and I would be back on payroll. A few dates after I sent this email I had a response from my line managed asking how temporary the arrangements would be as savings had to made next financial year, I had anticipated this would come up so said I was not prepared to discuss via email but would come in for a meeting. At the meeting my line manager and senior manager said that a temporary drop in hours was now not permitted and they would be looking yo have my post filled full time so my part time request could be refused. I ended up crying in the meeting as I have no childcare for my daughter etc and thought it was confirmed I would be returning part time.
I have now been sent the procedure for flexible working and basically my line managed should have referred me to my director (who I don't think knows any of this) and never should have had meetings with me. Forms should have been filled in which I didn't know existed.
I feel so lost now especially as everyone has now gone off on their summer holiday and I seem to be left in limbo land!
I am in the union and have asked they now attend meetings with me, I feel so naive and stupid!
