I'm 8 weeks into metformin and am still trying to figure out what triggers my upset stomachs. I don't have them everyday but am pretty sure that dairy is my trigger.
Did you find any specific foods that were triggers for you? What foods did you avoid?

Fatty-carby foods get me every time! Fries, pizza etc. all trigger tummy troubles. It usually hits me an hour or so after I eat, so if I am out somewhere or far from the bathroom I usually hold my dose until I get home. I recently started Met again and forgot how rotten the side effects are. Totally worth it, but wretched for the first couple of months. It got better for me eventually, but I still had to be careful.

This is random and it's not one you would think would cause issues but lettuce was the worst for me. Any time I ate a salad, I regretted it later. I googled about it and found lots of women have issues with lettuce when on Metformin. It did help me to start taking it at night before bed. Since then, I haven't really had any side effects.

Definitely fatty goods for me too. Bacon was a bad experience!

Hmmm lettuce. That's interesting! I'll have to try eliminating that if my stomach is still upset.

I'm dairy free today and will see how tonight goes. Evenings are the worst for me with lots of boating and gurgling.

Were you able to get pregnant on metformin alone?

How long was it before your symptoms lessened?

For me most days are fine now, but I have to be careful now (still figuring out how careful to be!)

I didn't get pregnant with Metformin alone, but it did help me lose 30 pounds and regulate my cycles. I got pregnant with 2000mg of Met and 100 mg of Clomid (no trigger). I think the Met definitely helped. I stayed on it until I was 16 weeks pregnant because it supposedly lessens the chance of miscarriage in ladies with PCOS.

My symptoms lessened around 3 months, but never fully went away. I think I just learned to manage them better. It is definitely trial and error.

I'm on Metformin as part of my diabetes regime, and it's taken a long time to get over the stomach issues it brings on.
Heavy carbs, greasy food, dairy, alcohol and caffeine were all the culprits in my diet. Also taking the tablets without any food is a no-no for me - I have to take it on a good, decent meal or else I suffer.

Hi ladies,

Been taking Metformin 500mg for 1 month now and was told to increase the dosage to 1000mg yesterday.

What other side effects do you have besides stomach upset? I didn't have stomach upset but felt exhausted all the time. Wondering if that's another side effect.
