 hi girls i thought id just post this thread that labor really isnt as bad as ppl make out , i had a natural birth and i kept calm about birth and kept my sense of homour lol and kept realy relaxed but sitting down and breathing and closing ur eyes really helps and the birthing ball and a hot shower lol .

i never did any classes i went to one and it honestly worried and scared me so i just stuck to reading books and stages of labor etc so i knew what to exspect and look look for but just having a calm approch i think really helps too

good luck for you ladies waiting for labor :hugs:

Will be nice to read peoples comments.

I am petrified about labour this time around, as I know what to expect. Last time I wasn't too worried, but after what I went through with my DD I am scared to death.

I had my first real panic about it yesterday :(

xxx

So nice to hear - thanks for the positive thoughts!

I am absolutely terrified and i dont know why, this is baby number 6 for me so i should be completely used to it, I had some spotting last night and couldnt sleep for 4 hours afterwards, I'm quite scared today as i feel 'different' i think my blood pressure will be through the roof as i cant seem to calm myself down my heart is beating ten to the dozen.

I agree with my first labour I totally panicked and the stress made the pain worse so when it came to giving birth second time round i remained calm breathed through the contractions and focused on what was to come and i coped so much better with the pain.

I enjoyed both births though and hope to have a nice relaxed birth this time round too. x

i love this thread :)

I have just over 5 week left and im starting to get really scared about it. So this is nice to read xxxx

Its always good to hear the positives stories. :)

My best advice would be to stay home for as long as you can hold out. Unless of course you need to get there for antibiotics or your water breaks or any other complication. With my first I hurried to the hospital only at 3 cm and it was the worst labor ever. Don't let them break your water until you are at least 8...the pain was horrible!! With my last two labors, I waited until I couldn't stand the pain anymore, where I knew ok..this is hurting and I got to the hospital (even though I needed antibiotics with group b strep on one of the pregnancies) I was still there on time. Got there at 8 cm dilated and had my son an hour and a half later...with my daughter I got there at 8 cm and had her 57 min later. They were easy labors, mainly because I felt more comfortable at home and could relax and stay calm. Maybe its something to do with hospitals for me lol I just don't like them all too well.

Great thread thanks!! I'm only 27 weeks gone and already having bad dreams, so its reassuring thanks x

I appreciate the positive thread cause I am soooo nervous about the pain honestly :flower:

I totally agree its not that bad obviously there is pain but if you keep calm and listen to what the midwife has to say you will be fine. I also agree about staying at home as long as possible as you will be more comfy at home

Nice to hear something positive about labour! I am currently reading a book on hypnobirthing, not because I am going to try and go all natural.... I do want whatever pain relief I can get, but because I want to learn how to try and keep calm and relaxed. I have heard this will help A LOT!! xx :flower:

thanks its lovely to hear really good experiences as everyone just tells you the bad ones!

Hi, this will be my first baby. I am very aprehensive, i am very scared of how bad the pain will be, i do not want an Epi, i plan to hold off any pain relief until i have to and im using a birthing pool.
I want to relax and have a laugh with OH, after all it is a special time!

Thanks for that, Ive read so many stories about pain and problems that its so nice to read something positive. I'm not scared about going into labour, I like to think I have a high pain threshold and women do this every single day so there is no reason why I can't, so I will follow your example and keep calm. I've read up about labour and after reading about pethidine and epidurals I want to have a natural birth (aided by gas and air) because pethidine goes straight into the baby and epidurals can slow labour down because you cant feel the contractions. Its all very well me saying this now but who knows what will happen when I'm in agony, might be screaming for pain relief!!

Thanks again x And your pic of baby is beautiful. Congrats!

Congratulations on your lovely baby boy and thanks for the positive story about labour. So many people are ready to give you horror stories that it's nice to hear the other side. I'm hoping to stay at home as long as I can, to keep moving and to only use TENS and gas and air. I'm focusing on the fact you do get a break between contractions - I'm a nurse working with people who often have terrible pain so I'm also trying to focus on the pain in labour being fairly short-lived and necessary to deliver your new baby. That makes it easier for me - best advice I've been given is to think of it as a productive pain and one people usually forget once you've got your baby.
