I've had multiple miscarriages and I found out last year I have MTHFR. methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase for the whole name. The basic infomration is this;

One such situation is if the mother has certain mutations in the MTHFR gene. People with this mutation need extra folic acid. Something called homocysteine builds up in their blood and they need folic acid to combat its effects. One of the effects of increased homocysteine build up may be more lost pregnancies. One number I saw was that 21% of women with high homocysteine levels have recurrent pregnancy loss!

It's very easily treated.

It is recommended that MTHFR patients need as much as 10 times the normal folic acid supplement. Not just during pregnancy, either, but every day to lower risk of all vascular disease. Also baby aspirin. I will see if the specialist backs this up next week. There is a prescription vitamin called Folgard which has all the folic acid and B6 and B12 needed by women positive for MTHFR.

Maybe it could be the answer a few women are looking for.

Good information :D

Something some may consider asking their GP about x

Thanks for the info hun. Me and my BH are going for blood tests in the morning, i have been putting it off for a few weeks because i'm worried incase they find a reason why i've had 2 m/cs. xxxx

Well if you do have MTHFR it is really easy to treat!!! Good luck, let us know how it goes!!!

Did you have your tests yet? :)

i've had the one m/c caused by a blighted ovum. i'm currently on my 2nd preg and there's always the worry that something will go wrong again. thanks alot for this info and i will definitely worth looking in to. xxx

I've only just read this thread but it's really interesting! I've had two m/c so am gonna ask if there's anything I can be tested for like this, How do they test for it? Blood tests? x

Blood tests, mine took 6 weeks to come back because I was being tested for other things as well. If you do have it, it's very easy treated. They recommenced you postpone TTC until all the vitamins have been in your body 1-3 months. :) Not much to ask if it gives you a much higher chance of having a healthy pregnancy!!! :)
