Hi There we have been using Aptamil 1 milk since birth.
Had no probs with it apart from when Lo got reflux at 12weeks he started getting a bit contapated.

Was wondering anyone to uses the comfort brands who's Lo has reflux does it make the reflux any better? we use infant gaviscon in ds bottles but im not sure if the comfort brand would make any difference.
did it help the reflux for you? or did it make no difference?

I guess i'm a bit dubious about trying it as i don't get any healthy start tokens so would have to fork out £10.99 myself and i don't know if ds would take it or if it would make a difference and dont want to change his milk back and forth.

On his gaviscon ds isnt really sicky but his reflux does stop him from feeding well with sometimes only taking 3-4oz each feed.

any advice would be great.:flower:

Hi we were also on aptamil 1 with dd who has reflux. Likewise she didn't feed as much on it so I changed her to aptamil comfort. She loved it but she also brought most of it back up. Full bottles back up, whereas she never did on first milk. After 2 weeks of weigh ins where she was putting on not 3oz a week, I changed her to cow and gate first milk with carobel mixed in to make it thicker. It seems like she doesn't drink as much yet is putting on double the amount of weight! No constipation at all even better than on comfort.

This is just our story, your ds may take to it very well. It's no harm to try it but you should give it 10-14 days of it before you change again if it doesn't work. You can just change immediately to comfort milk but if going back to first milk from comfort you have to introduce the bottles gradually....

You can by Aptamil and Cow and Gate Anti-reflux milk from Boots.

It's much thicker, so use a fast flow teat. It can also potentially cause constipation so 1oz of water once or twice a day should prevent this. Here's a link.

My LO has reflux and I have her on cow and gate comfort. It doesn't cuase constipation at all, which suprised me as I've heard some other comfort formulas do.

I have found the comfort milk great. I used both cow and gate and aptamil comfort with great success :)

Thanks everyone for the advice and taking the time to reply. ive had a think about it and think i will stick with the ones im using atm. we were using infant gaviscon which made him constapated. since using the ranitdine a few days ago his poo is really runny and smelly. anyone else find this? x

Hi
Our LO has been on infant gaviscon for 5 days and she seems to be getting better (silent relfux) but we still have the odd bout of crying and signs shes in a little pain.
We use aptamil 1 (Dr said not to change milk just yet as we need to see if gaviscon helps on its own)
My question is when do you think the gaviscon isnt working, our LO is happier somewhat (not crying hysterically for hours) although her poos are a little more solid but not constipated and she does still squirm and grunt lots after a feed?

Most people say gaviscon is no good and to get prescribed Rantidide from the Dr?

We have our 6 week check next week so I want to make sure our LO is getting the right treatment for her reflux as its heatbreaking to see her in pain

x

we were on the infant gaviscon for 9weeks before we got the ranitdine.
if you notice any improvement its helping i know theres an improvement when we use it. annoying this is doctor told me babies have it a long time :(

Ranitidine can make baby's poo runny for a couple of reasons, if you have just started using it, it is just baby getting used to it, or if you have been using it a while now, the dose may be a little high, how much does your LO have in 24hours?

Also, if you are using the Carobel thickener it can make baby's poo runny and bright yellow, oh the joys :)

When we use just infant gaviscon on its own it makes ds poo hard and constapated and he gets bits of blood in his poo with straining.
when he used infant gaviscon and ranitadine its liquid poo.

he has been on infant gaviscion for 9weeks. and ranitadine for 8days now. he has 0.5mls 3x a day so not a high dosage. x

My LO's last weigh in at 13lb put his dosage to 0.46 3x a day. It could just take a few more days for the Ran to fully get into his system. My LO had horrible constipation on Gaviscon, we only used it for a week as he was worse off for it. You could ask your Doc to prescribe Carobel thickener to use in the Aptamil First, it pretty much works the same way as there anti-reflux brand, it roughly £5 for a box of Carobel but you can get it on prescription alongside the Ran, perhaps use the thickener instead of the Gaviscon and it could ease his constipation. It's so hard to find a balance to help them, roll on the days of sitting and standing on their own and hopefully the reflux disappears x

Hi All, My LO has been suffering from reflux since she she was 4 weeks old. GP prescribed Infat Gaviscon which helped a lot but made her really badly constipated. So GP then prescribed lactulose which didnt help at all so they put her on rantadine which is helping a little bit we have also changed the milk to aptamial comfort but this combo is not working that great. Any ideas what we can we use which would have same affect as gaviscon. Thanks
