Me and OH both got these the other day (didnt even know we were entitled)

So the question is....

I have a eye test next week and was wondering if i would have to pay for this?or would the exemption cert cover it?

Also,i know i am going to be perscribed glasses as my vision is terrible and runs in the family...but they are expensive...does the exemption cert cover the cost of glasses too? or will i have to pay for these?

And advice would be helpfull thanks xxx

A Tax credits exemption certificate entitles you to:

free NHS prescriptions
free NHS dental treatment
free NHS sight tests
The full value voucher towards the cost of glasses or contact lenses
free NHS wigs and fabric supports
help with travel to receive NHS treatment under the care of a consultant.

Hope this helps, and good luck at your eye test!

My work actually involves these cards (its for the NHS Low Income Scheme) and to further add to the above...
-As long as you have not had a free sight test within the last 2 years you will be able to have one free.
- You do not get free glasses unless you pick NHS frames. The card covers the cost of the lenses usually (they look at your optical prescription and work out an amount that you will not have to pay). This amount will not cover the frames, unless NHS. Plus, the amount will not cover you for any additions you make to the lenses (for example, scratch-resistent coating), unless you have to have it for medical reasons (like a tint, for example).
A bit confusing, but hope that helps!

how to you find out if your entitled to this? as i get child tax credits

They send it u automatically if u are entitled

you get one if your income used for tax credits is below 15,500 ish

but it takes a while for them to come through we got ours in june (applied in march and started recieving tax credits in april)
