Hiya - if you had GD, were you induced, and if so at how many weeks? Did they give a reason? Did you end up having a c-section or vaginal birth?

Many thanks!

I was - although I regret that. I was induced a few days before term and I gave birth vaginally. There was no reason - other than it was 'normal procedure'.

My advice to you (and myself the next time around!) is don't be bullied into an induction. If your GD is well controlled and everything else about the pregnancy is 'normal', then an early induction really isn't necessary imho.

Hi I was induced at 40 weeks the first time but ended up with a c-section. This time round having a c-section at 38 weeks as this is now policy.

Hope this helps.

I was induced at 38+1. I had a scan and doctor check the day before and they asked me to come in the next day for an induction. At the time they thought he was getting a bit big and my sugars had been rising a little. My son was 8Lb 4oz at birth. I didnt need any help with the birth.

I dont know what the policy is now as they have changed things with regards to gestational diabetes. Ive got a scan and doctor appointment when Im 37+4. Honestly Im expecting to be induced again this time, Im struggling a lot more with this pregnancy so I doubt I will fight it although I had planned to earlier on.

I had GD, i got induced at 39+1 + had a vaginal birth :) was a lovely experience!

I have GD and I have refused induction, unless there is any real medical reason for it - ie me or baby are unwell etc.
I was given the look of disgust from the 'diabetic midwife' but the consultant approved my decision on the basis I was monitored every 3-4 days from 38+5.

I have also requested a sweep at 40 weeks but no other induction methods.

Are you being induced? xxxxxxx :hugs:

Not sure yet. Baby is measuring 1-2 weeks bigger at present but my insulin has been upped so hopefully it will help. I have a consultant appointment in 2.5 weeks time after another growth scan, so I'll hopefully have a better idea by then.

With my first I had GD also and I was induced as they didn't want me going over and risk the baby gaining too mush weight. I ended up with a C-section for failed induction as I did not progress and neither did the baby.

My baby is also measuring big-ish, but my other DD's weren't exactly small - my youngest DD was 9lb 8oz at birth (did not have GD with her). At my last scan (32 weeks) this baby's estimated weight then was 5lb.... which I think is about 2 weeks ahead, but my amniotic fluid level is on target and my consultant said that average fluid levels shows my sugar levels aren't affecting the baby.

I have another growth scan on the 7th Sept, so I'll be interested to see if she's still measuring big or has levelled out!

Good luck xxxxxxxxxxxx

I was induced at 38 weeks only because they said he was a huge baby, no other reason. It took 5 days for me to get 1cm dilated (he just wasn't ready) and i had my waters broken and after 12 hours of labour (i wont go into detail) i ended up with a Emergency c section through failure to progress and my LO went into distress. He was eventually born weighing 8lb8, so not huge really.

Good luck, don't worry and enjoy the experience it's magical!

I was diagnosed with GD @ 9 wks and was insulin dependant from 11 wks on...I was supposed to be induced @ 37+6 (for diabetes, mature placenta, and low amniotic fluid) but I went into labor on my own that day...well, I dilated to 5cms and thinned out 90% (so they said it was labor lol) but they did give me pitocin to strengthen my contractions in hopes of labor being shorter so I didn't have to go too long without eating and my sugars wouldnt get too low, then they had to break my water...All in all it was 10 hours, I had a vaginal delivery and pushed her out in 22 minutes. But they also thought she was going to be almost 9 lbs at that point based off the EFW during an ultrasound...she came out 7 lbs 2.5 oz...but all in all I had a great birth experience...the pregnancy experience wasn't quite as good lol

I have GD & on insulin....

Booked in to be induced next Sunday :)

I have GD that I am controlling with diet. I am measuring 31-32 weeks and I am 33 weeks, so they aren't concerned about her being too big, but it's their policy to induce at 37 or 38 weeks depending on my growth scan at 36 weeks.

I have GD and am now being induced at 37 weeks, but its not for GD its because I also have pre eclampsia. My doc wasn't going to induce early just cause of GD because it was being controlled with insulin and diet. Although he did say yesterday that having a c-section is going to be a bigger possibility with induction but they only do emergency c-sections at my hospital so I am not really worried about about that unless its absolutely necessary which I won't know until I go into labor lol.

I was due on 3rd September and was given an induction date of 1st September. However, Logan decided he was going to arrive when he chose on 25th August at 38+5 :) I had a normal delivery and arrived at the hospital 10cm dilated and ready to push, giving birth half an hour after I got to the delivery suite. I was diet controlled GD only.

I was induced at 39+5 due to high BP after 56 hours of labour I had to have a c-section due to my babys head been at an angle wich could not be delivered.

1. were you induced??
sort of...I went into labor (dilating and effacing) while waiting to be induced at 37+6. (Went from 3cm and 0% that morning to 5cm and 90% while waiting) But they did go ahead and break my water and give me pitocin to help speed things up just so that I didnt go too long with low blood sugars.

2.did they give a reason?
The biggest reason I had was low amniotic fluid and a mature placenta with calcium deposits on it (side effect from the diabetes)

3.c section or vaginal?
after a 10 hr labor in total (4 hrs waiting and in labor, 6 hours after breaking water and pitocin started), I delivered Haley vaginally at 38 wks (12:26am)

guess I should add, I was insulin dependant as well...68-80 units a day depending on sugar levels

Hi I had gd but wasn't diagnosed until 34 weeks. I was induced at 38 weeks as my lo was measuring very big with a big tummy. After 2 days of induction the midwife broke my waters and I went into labour pretty much staight away. I had an agonizing back labour and after 2 hours of pushing I was taken for an emergency c section. My lo was 9 lb 2 and a half ozs and if they hadn't induced me would have.been near 11lbs as she was putting on weight so quickly.
