Hi! I need some foreign baby girl name ideas. DH and I speak French and Spanish at home, and we'd like a name that sounds good in those languages. It doesn't necessarily have to be a French or a Spanish name, we just don't want an English name. And this being an English forum, those are the ones I come across the most. So, if you have any family from a non-English speaking country, please share some names :)

Could you be a little bit more specific? What names do you like already? How many syllables are in your last name?

Good suggestions! I like Sofia, and Olivia, but we've already ruled them out as too common. DH and I haven't been agreeing on the name, I wanted Maya, and he wanted Aliah. So, the name we've most recently agreed on is Blanca. I just want to have as many ideas as possible, since we probably won't settle on a name until she's here!

I don't understand what you mean by foreign? My name is Abigail which is very common in the UK, however it is Hebrew and is common in most French speaking countries.

Do you mean a name that isn't used in the UK?

If by foreign you mean Exotic? Or different I think the name Altheda and or Atheena are gorgeous and not too common I know of one Altheda and she looks like a Greek Goddess and pretty much everyone in our high school wanted to look like her lol

Thanks for the ideas! Picking a name is so hard!!! I would like my daughter to love her name, but you just can't know how someone else is going to feel about a name you like ....

My daughter loves how everyone comments on her name and the gemstone she is named after!

My neighbours daughter is called Serene. Its pretty.

I lived in Denmark for awhile and met a lot of women named Mette (pronounced Med-ah), Nadine (nay-deen-ah), Frida (free-duh), Else (Elsa), Annette (Ah-Ned-ah), and Signe (seen-ah). There were lots of Sophies as well!

My great great grandmother was from Spain and her name was Anatolia (Awna-tow-lee-ah)

Here's a few of girls names from our family (Spanish):

Andrea
Beatriz
Noa
Carmen
Violeta
Lourdes

I really like the name Valentine (pronounced Vall-un-teen) since meeting a French girl with the name. I think it'd be cute for a little girl and very sophisticated when she's older.

My son is a Sebastian. I'm a Spanish speaker (but not fluent) and I was keen to choose a name that worked when we were in Spain as our friends initially struggled with our first son's name. Our girl's names were Lucia, Tavia and Felicity.
