Hi, ladies. Hope you're all well. After a bit of advice really.....
Can't believe it but I totally forgot I'm not allowed to eat pate and had some for lunch today! Only found out last week that was pregnant and obviously hasn't sunk in yet! Am only 4+2 so placenta hasn't developed yet but wonder if the Vit A content could do some damage.
Am I right to be worried do you think?

Dont worry too much at this stage what you eat doesnt really count, some people go out partying for 12 weeks and then find out they are pregnant and it does no harm! :hugs: ps I also believe in eating a little of whatever you want, I dont give up ''bad'' foods, just take caution when Im eating them :)

How I feel personally about this is that whether is pate, sushi, fish etc. the risk for your newborn baby is the same as it is to you even when you are not pregnant. The issue with pate is due to listeria bacteria but unless what you ate was contaminated I'd say you are fine.

I think you'll be okay. I ate pâté throughout my last pregnancy in very small amounts but regularly. I fact I don't really avoid anything on the "list".x

I didnt think Pate was off limits for the listeria factor i thought it was off beciase its so rich in Vit A?????

i would not worry too much, about it hun, as long as you not eating whole packets twice a day i think youll be fine.

Pate can sometimes be a risk for listeria - but so can anything, lettuce, melon, any fresh foods. There are some foods which tend to carry it more, but if you've never gotten it when you weren't pregnant, the chances that you will from having pate once in pregnancy are pretty small. Pate only has a high vitamin A content if its liver pate, so obviously if there's no liver in it, it's fine, you might as well just be eating some chicken salad, which is perfectly healthy for you. But one time isn't a big deal either way. I ate soft unpasteurized cheese in 1st tri and I lived to tell the tale. I don't eat meat pates, but a nice mushroom one sounds good right now and I wouldn't be afraid to eat that either, assuming it was fresh and well-packaged or I'd made it myself.

It's the vitamin A I'm worried about really, not the listeriosis. It was chicken liver pate and I probably ate about a quarter of the pack. I think you do have to eat a lot more than that for it to be a serious issue as it builds up over time and I haven't eaten any for ages before that. Just have to wait and see and put it out of my mind.....I've also read people used to be advised to eat liver to increase iron levels once upon a time. No mention of how the babies turned out though! Thanks for your replies x

I wouldn't worry, just don't eat it too often xx

Ps. To the lady who mentioned people partying til 12w and getting away with it: google 'fetal alcohol syndrome' ... partying during weeks 6-12 does do some babies a LOT of harm!

No I certainly won't be doing that again in a hurry. BTW Sidney is so cute!!
