Hi everyone,

I know that this is quite a silly/random post so I apologise in advance! :dohh: We are using the Actamil formula and it has a scoop in the tub. We use the scoop but with the heat from the water some of the powder sticks to the scoop so you never quite get a full scoop of powder when we add the powder into the water.

Therefore, I'm concerned that we are not adding enough powder. I started to clean and sterilize the scoop today so that it's clean but with the steam from the water the powder still sticks to the scoop. Do you clean the scoop and then only add the powder once the water is cooler?

Thanks and sorry again for a dumb post.
Caroline

Not a dumb post at all, I've been worrying about the same thing.

Hopefully someone in the know will have some ideas!!!

I got some tommee tipper powder pots with my kit and I measure the powder into those first (also helps if you get distracted and lose count as you can just put it back into the container and start again) and then pour them from the pots into the bottles. Adds an extra step but probably less time in the long run as the powder never sticks to the scoop and no constant cleaning the scoop. It doesn't have to be a sexual it I guess any container will do the job.

Oops sorry damn predictive!! Should have been special not sexual!!!!

I wait until the water is cooler, get a more accurate scoop amount then :)
Try tapping the back of the scoop with a knife or something, should knock it loose xx

Between bottles I pour water from the kettle over the scoop and clean it, drying with kitchen roll. You could always use a dispenser like Gbobs says, I've got one though and never use it but they are a good idea xx

Thanks everyone! I think I will sterilize the scoop as I make up three bottles in one go and then tap it so that things dislodge from it. So glad so many people have responded and it wasn't a silly question. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to reply. Thanks again. x

I tap the scoop really hard and that usually gets most of the powder off, but if some does stick I just scrape it off with the knife I use to level it off xx

I used to prepare all my bottles with the water the night before and store them in the fridge.

When we needed one I would add the formula then zap it in the microwave.

What I do is put the powder in the bottle first... Then with a second bottle I put the water in I need then pour this into the bottle with the powder.. That way.. No sticky scoop, and you get the right amount of water too

Soo.. If I was making 5oz.. I'd put 5 scoops in the bottle.. Then in the second bottle put 5oz of water in then pour it in the first bottle :)

I have never worried about it! If you use cooler water it doesn't get damp and thus the powder sticking.

Soo.. If I was making 5oz.. I'd put 4 scoops in the bottle.. Then in the second bottle put 5oz of water in then pour it in the first bottle :)

Don't you mean 5 scoops - 1 scoop per oz of water?

Lol I figured it was a typo - 4 and 5 being next to each other. Sort of silly thing I do :haha:

Oh god auto correct does my bleedin' head in! It frustrates me so much - I'm always shouting at my phone lol

what i do is......i make all bottles the night before so i put say 6 scoops in each bottle then using a spare bottle measure out 6oz of hot water and pour into the bottle with the powder in that way no clogged up scoop

it used to reallt irritate me a clogged up scoop and i read a thread in here from someone!!!!

Is it ok to put the powder in first? I read that the water had to go in first? Thanks x

It is if you put powder in one bottle, measure the water in another and tip it across. The reason you have to put powder in 2nd if you do it in 1 bottle is because it affects the water measurement. Done in 2 bottles the water amount is right, if that makes sense.
