Up until now I haven't ventured out of the house for long periods of time as LO is 6 weeks and I had a c section so have had to rely on others to take me places. So now that I can finally drive and get out and about, I'm wondering which is the best way to handle pre-making bottles to take out with me?

Is it best to keep a bottle of boiled water in a thermal bag and add the formula powder when he's ready for a feed? How long can I keep this water for? Or is it best if I make the bottle as per usual before going out (but not cooling to correct temp so it's still hot) and keeping in thermal bag until he's ready for it? again, how long could I keep this for?

If I'm visiting someone's house I'm planning to make the formula just before I go out, not cooling it to correct temp, keeping in thermal bag and putting it in the fridge when I get there ready for when he's hungry. I currently pre-make a day's worth at home as when he's hungry he's very impatient and the thought of 30 mins of his screaming does not appeal!

We have always pre-made bottles (I can't see how making when required is worthwhile to anyone - screaming hungry baby? no thanks!!)
When we go out (this is before LO was on staydown which goes against any rules in making it up) I would just take a bottle out of the fridge and pop it in the side pocket of the changing bag which is lined with foil to keep cold things cold / hot things hot and then a thermos of boiling water (tommee tippee do a good one which fits most bottles) to warm the feed in when required.
Failing that, if you are concerned about carrying around pre-mix formula just invest in a few cartons if that option is available with LO's milk...

if you have tommee tippee bottles they do milk dispensers that fit into the bottles just pour the powder in and thats it :) xx

we just take 2 cartons and have 2 bottles in the bottle pouch of my changing bag and just use them when lo needs feeding :flower:

I use a powder dispenser, imho I think it's safer for baby :)

We have a milk dispensr from Mothercare, it holds 3 lots of milk.
We take out bottles with the right amount of water in, then heat them up with boiling water in a resturant, unless I am going to someones house (in which case I fill the bottles up to half of what I need, then top up with boiling water so it is the right temp).

I used to take bottles with cold water and sterilising solution (to keep them sterile and then i'd just tip it out when i was gonna use it) in aswell as a couple of cartons :) I was never happy about adding formula to water below 70 degrees :) When she was older and her tummy a little less delicate, i used to keep my pre made bottles in a cool bag with ice packs (they'd been in the frisge at home) and have a bottle warmer flas of hot water to heat them up when needed xx
