Carobel is like magic!

After ringing about 15 chemists i finally found a box. I mixed 2 scoops with his 7ox feed and you wouldn't even suspect he had reflux in the slightest.

Lo was on Aptamil 1st with Gaviscon. His reflux was alot better but not 100% gone like with the Carobel. It also made him constipated.

Have now changed him to Aptamil comfort (not getting runny poos anymore and no wind) with the Carobel. Not had any coughing, crying, throwing up.

Ladies i'd advise everyone whos not getting anywhere to try it!!

I'm so happy:happydance:

Hi hun. You can get sainsburies to order it for you from the pharmacy dept. Just tell them what you want and how many boxes and they usually have it the next day:thumbup:

But be warned of constipation. I adjusted to only 1/2 a scoop to prevent the constipation.

no prescription required...

if you ask your local chemist they will order it in for you its only £4 i think...

You can get it on prescription so you don't have to pay. Yeah i paid £4.25. Worth every penny and looks like it will last a long time xx

Sorry to bump an old thread. Did you use this long term hun? We started yesterday morninh and thought Id found a miracle for DS silent reflux, no more fussy feeding, screaming and back arching and getting really distressed but it seems to have given him terrible bottom end wind and hes been crying with it this morning and so upset and restless. Im not sure which is worse! xx

I only uses it for a little while, as my dd started solids her reflux totally cleared up..

Hey hun. It did stop working for us unfortunately. We went on to using SMA staydown. This worked brilliant and didn't stop.

Ahh. Not sure what to do then.

DS has a really sensitive and immature digestive system and the only milk he has really been able to tolerate without colicky pains and wind is Hipp Combiotic. So I don't want to have to change brands and want to find a thickener to use with it :-(

I tried a feed without Carobel and the difference between a normal feed and a thickened feed is immense. Normal feeds he chokes, gulps, screams and arches his back and is really distressed when winding and won't settle afterwards - crying and throwing his head back and arms and legs out and desperately sucking for his dummy and screaming when he drops it every 10 mins - this goes on until the next feed. It takes him 45-90mins for a normal feed + wind and is a horrible experience! With Carobel ALL of this is gone and he's so floppy and sleepy and happy and content after his feeds like a normal newborn baby. And it only takes 20mins to finish a feed and wind him. But then suddenly we are hit with the smelly painful wind like he can't digest it :-(

Do you think I should stick with the Carobel and see if his little body adjusts to digesting it? It really is helping so much but it's not fair if it's causing him the cramps and wind! But then it's so obvious he needs the thickener to cope with the feeds and reflux.

Or should I go for a switch to SMA Staydown?? No point trying Aptamil A-R as that's thickened with carob bean same as Carobel so would likely cause same issues. There's Enfamil AR too but it's thickened with rice starch and DS is already a really constipated baby and I think this would make it worse.

Aww my LO was exactly the same. Aptamil made him worse, hipp was better but SMA the best. SMA does cause constipation aswel though. I'd stick with the carobel if its working. Can you not ask the GP to see if he can help you with the constipation? Have you tried giving him some water? Xx

We have just started to use Carobel too and is really working with her sickness, but like you she is suffering with wind :-(

She is on Neocate for a milk allergy and the neocate is really thin! But since starting the carobel, (yesterday) hardly any sick anymore, but she is screaming in pain with wind now, same thing with the dummy sucking furiously on it and when it falls out screaming some more. She is having trouble staying asleep too as she must still have wind all the time! Arrrhhh!!

Just when you think you have found something that is helping, it causes other problems!!

ladies have you tried changing to amino acid formulas? like neocate...?
