Framed baby/child carriers/outdoorsy SSC's

I have an Osprey Poco, which I have used for hiking. I certainly recommend it. Jacob has fallen asleep in it a few times so I am guessing it's comfy for him!

I use a wrap on a day to day basis but I wouldn't contemplate using this hiking.

What about the plain black Ergo sport?

DH uses an original Ergo in black/camel and likes it just fine, but the black Ergo sport looks a bit more masculine IMO.

I showed DH egos after another poster suggested them, and I think he likes the solid colours rather than the prints, so I think that's what we might go for. He's 6' and I'm 5'2" though so we might end up having to get two different carriers, just for comfort's sake. If so then I'll get a pretty printed one :)

We have a boba 2g that I got second hand and its brown - very plain and manly. Even DH wears it without complaint. Our son is nearly 2 and a very heavy lump!
We originally had a framed carrier but quickly found him too heavy to carry in it - I think because LO sits further away from your back and so the weight is distributed differently then in a SSc. I can carry DS for an hour or so in our boba and would never manage that now in the framed carrier.
We had a deuter framed carrier and I would say LO was more seated than crotch dangling in it if that helps!

The extra weight of the frame is one of the reasons I couldn't see the point of it. We don't do a lot of long hikes so unless that changes I don't see that we need it, because they're not cheap. A SSC is something that would get used much more often and by both of us so I think I'd rather spend our money there.

This thread has really help and has given me some names of good framed carriers if we decide we want to get one (I know DH would just pick whatever one the outdoor shop has rather than researching like me lol)

If you aren't doing a lot of long hikes I wouldn't get a framed carrier. They're so bulky! We use ours for backpacking because we can lash our gear to the outside of it, but I wouldn't use one on a regular basis for walks or short hikes. Just as I wouldn't use a framed backpack instead of a daypack or a handbag!
