I met some friends from work for coffee this morning and while in the coffee shop I heard a baby crying, and it sounded like a tiny baby, you know how they have that distinctive cry that makes you go all gooey when you hear it?!

Anyway we ordered and sat waiting for our drinks and I turned round to see this tiny wee baby propped up in it's pram being fed a mashed up rusk....

Nothing wrong there you would think, but this baby was realy small, I did think at first maybe she was just a little baby for her agebut then another friend of mine came in (she is baby mad!)
and walked right over to see the baby, she has no idea who this woman is but asked the usual, "how old is she?"

The mothers reply was .............. "3 weeks"
My friend then went on to tell her that her baby is far too young for solids and the woman replied "well it makes her sleep at night so im not stopping, and wtf has it got to do with you anyway...blah blah blah"

The woman with the baby is in her 40's with 3 other kids so you can't put it down to not knowing...

I feel so sorry for her kids...... I'm not one to judge but the woman did look like a junkie :sad2:
I wanted to grab the little baby off her and take her home! :hissy:

Awww poor little baby, how do you even feed a 3 week old??

It was awful to watch, her head was all floppy as you would expect a 3 week olds head to be and she was crying the whole way through it

Omg im shocked :| That poor baby. I wonder if her health visitor knows this! Im glad your friend said something although this probably wont stop the lady. You cant expect a baby that young to sleep through anyway, Dont have bloody kids if you cant handle waking up in the night! I would of definitely said something too if i saw this!

Oh poor little baby  I would have been just as upset as it sounds like you were honey.
xxx

Well we were obviously all discussing it and actually thought about phoning the health visitor but didn't know whether we should....

Doe's this count as mistreating a child do you think?

I was fed at 3 weeks
A friend of mine fed her first at 3 weeks

Her second (now 5 months old) she tried feeding at 1.5 weeks because he wouldn't sleep through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She said it actually made him start screaming out in pain so she stopped thank god.
And she didn't actually start again until 3.5-4 months because he just wasnt interested in eating it, and even now at five months is just taking to a spoon. Poor thing.
I just kept my mouth shut though because she is OH's brother girlfriend.

And I fed Colton at around 9 weeks, but he took to it really well and was eating off a spoon a couple weeks later (actually reaching for the spoon and wanting the food), so I dont want anyone to think I'm a hipocrit (sp?) for saying that but feeding him early.. I truely believe if they arent ready then they dont need it, and NEVER give it too them to try and make them sleep through, thats just awful. :(

Some people will look at feeding a baby so young as child abuse, the baby doesnt know better it doesnt need the food and I am sure with a 3 week old she had to do a lot of force feeding.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!! You know what, things like this really boil my piss! (Please excuse the language!)

I actually think I'm too angry to say any more....

Poor little mite

Im not sure its mistreating as such but its definitely not the best thing for the baby and Im sure health visitors would definitely have something to say about it.
But how could you speak to the health visitor about it?Do you know who the lady is?xxxx

Well i guess it does? Its not right is it? Its not even safe is it? I would tell the health visitor if i ever saw anything like this only i guess you dont know the ladys name or where she even comes from. Difficult one.

Oh we found out who she is, our town is quite small and we knew one of the girls that works in the coffee shop and she knew who she is......

Its a really tough one chick.
But I would say, because it is for the sake of the little baby,it would be worth giving the health visitor a quick call xx

omg thats awful!! surely if hes hungry she should try him with more milk not bloody rusk!!! that really is awful poor lil boy

Oh well in that case if you know who she is, maybe you could tell the health visitor or somebody. I definitely would because you never know what else this lady might be doing wrong!:wacko:
