From 1st tri: anyone having a successful pregnancy after 3 miscarriages?

Filipenko-

It was all routine bloods that they (the fertility/IVF clinic) do pre-IVF (it helps determine the hormonal treatments/injections before hopefully, you release loads of eggs, etc.), where they check TSH (which is thyroid), along with blood count, FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), LH (luteinising hormone), etc. It was realised that my thyroid was underactive and it did take a while for the meds to be correctly adjusted, but once done, seems to have worked. Women aren't usually checked for thyroid function in ordinary pregnancy, but my maternity hospital has continued to monitor and my levels continue to be normal (with daily, life-long medication)....

Metformin is the brand name for the generic Glucophage, in which it has been shown (although some scientists disagree, naturally) to decrease the level of miscarriage, especially in PCOS ladies, but it seems to help with the blood flow/placenta formation.

There's an excellent book, called 3 Steps to fertility by a Marina Nicholas, which I found in my local library and we got an ex-library copy from amazom. com pretty cheap. It was very helpful for me as it went through both natural/holistic and normal western medical tests. At the very least, I know that my body was/in tip-top shape for IVF; that we got pregnant naturally is an added bonus.

best wishes

Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this, yes you're right about getting your body in top shape and at least then you feel as though you're doing something. I have had my thyroid checked along with a zillion other tests too. Ill get that book, sounds interesting. Im also thinking of taking up chinese medicine. All the best to you and thanks again!

Goodluck at the doc's hunny x let us know how it goes xx

Did anyone ever have the chromosomes of the tissue from a d&c tested? I'm not sure whether to do this and have a d&c

If it's an option they offer it could be a gd idea - at least it would rule out certain things hunny (((hugs)))

Yes, they did this with my third MC. Results came back normal, but it is definately something to try if the option is available to you.

That's good to know, I will do this I think as you don't really have anything to lose I suppose. Thanks for replying again, they're beautiful pictures of your children btw, hopefully makes all the suffering beforehand worthwhile I suppose!!

Im so sorry to hear what you have been through, i dont have any advice for you, i had one MC and that was awful enough. I really really hope you get the baby you deserve. xx

It will! It is such a painful journey, but one day you will look back on your struggles and appreciate your children all the more! Best of luck to you.:hugs:

Yes, I had the chromosomes tested with one. I got told that chromosome 10 was "abnormal" and this caused the baby to stop developing. But I also got told that chromosome problems are the reason for most first trimester miscarriages and there were no problems with me or my husband so it was just one of those things.

This for me actually made it a little better, somehow being told that this was unavoidable and not my fault helped for me. And also that it was unlikely to happen again (even though that was the second time) gave me some confidence that I would one day be a mum.

I would recommend, but not sure it would help everyone. xxx

If they are giving you the option, I would do it. Mine were never tested so I had to deal with the doctors telling me my losses "could have been chromosomal". It would have been nice to know for sure so that we would know which way to take my treatment - is it MY body messing up or are the babies just chromosomally abnormal.

This is really priceless information for me so thank you again for being so kind and replying :hugs: :hugs: I don't know where I'd be without this forum. I find that the mornings are worse emotionally between about 6am and 10am and then I get on here and I feel SO much better. I have been having bad nightmares too mainly about my husband leaving me because i can't have children. In reality he is just super strong, lovely and supportive in every way and we are best friends but that seems to be making me feel even more 'guilty' and that he deserves better. Lots of women on here including you are really role models for me at the moment and I often think of you all when I am having a meltdown.

Hi all,

Just an update. I went for a scan last night and was fully expecting the doctor to say there was still a yolk sac at 7 weeks and so it's not a viable pregnancy (this is my '3rd miscarriage' so you can see how much I was expecting it to happen!!) Anyway, there is a heartbeat now but it's not as high as the doctor would like so he has put me on steroids in case it's the immune system attacking it. I don't have a great deal of hope but I have a scan next week to see if has increased. Anyone got any stories of increasing heartbeats? x x

My aunt is 29 and had 6 miscarriages in a row she is now 20 weeks pregnant :)
The baby looks great!

Unfortunately I believe it is entirely possible to have the bad luck of three miscarriages caused by chromosonal abnormalities. I don't know why, or how you can be told there is nothing wrong with you, but this happens anyway. At one point I figured my eggs were weak, or my hubby's sperm were not great quality, but I've just had my 20 week anomoly scan and for the sonographer to say to me you have a beautiful, perfect and healthy little girl in there is quite astounding. That's not what I'm used to hearing.

But I'm truly hoping this will work out for you and you will be hearing those words too in a few weeks. But if the worst happens, my advice would be to get yourselves tested, perhaps if there is something wrong, it can be fixed and if you are both found to have no problems, keep trying - you're baby is waiting for you. xxx

That's wonderful news about your scan! SO happy for you, you must be over the moon!! We have both had chromosome tests and hubby has had sperm tests and a sperm dna fragmentation test (this looks at it more closely) and nothing is wrong. It's definitely unlucky to have bad eggs/sperm 3 times if this is the case. Are you around my age 32? If so, I don't think age can have anything to do with it either and we started trying when I just turned 31. Did you have your hcg levels measured in the beginning? Mine stopped doubling at one point so I don't think that's a great sign either. Thanks for all your encouraging words :hugs: x x
