Hello ladies, I know I am going to ask probably some silly questions but I would be grateful for any of you help.

I have been TTC 17 months now and DH's has had his SA done which came back normal and I have now an appointment in 2 weeks time with a Gynaenagoloist (sp). My first question is...is this a Fertility Specialist? Sorry that is probably really a dumb question but I just want to make sure that I don't have to go to this appointment to be referred to someone different. That this is actually it...we are going to get answers and things will be progressing quite quick after this.

I have had high prolactin but I am taking Bromocriptine for this and now my levels are normal. My GP said that this is fine and that this is not the problem now that is stopping me from falling pg. Last year, I also had my CD21 test done and my doctor was happy with that and when I told him that my cycle was a bit longer that month of the test he was happy that my levels of my CD21 test would have been higher then. But of course it did take alot of persuasion (sp) to get DH to go for a SA. When I returned to my doctor he couldn't help giggling that the fact it was 1 year ago I had my CD21 test and that it took so long to get DH to do the sample. :dohh:

When I asked my GP what to expect from this appointment he said that they may want to run all the tests again. :dohh: I said do they really have to get DH to do his test again....I don't want to wait a year again but I think he will do it quicker this time since he knows he is normal anyway. The only test that I would expect that I need now is the HSG test but I take it they will do another CD21 test. Don't think they will run a CD3 test since that is for prolactin anyway and that is closely monitored.

So may question is basically, what will I expect from this appointment? Can anyone share their experience? Thanks in advance and sorry for the ramble above. xxx

I don't know the answer but we are in the same situation (except my DH has a low SA)

I have my appointment with the gyno next Friday but no idea what it is for. The booking people could only tell me that it was for 45 minutes but no idea what it is actually for! I have to go to the fertility clinic for the appointment so it must be linked somehow.

Will watch for the replies with interest. And good luck with your appointment Irish Eyes

Thanks Redfraggle and let me know how you get on on Friday. x

Hi there,

My first appointment in Sept just simply entailed the nurse weighing me, had an internal, went through our medical history and how long we had been TTC. The FS sent me for bloood tests a HSG and said come back in 3 months.

I went back xmas eve all excited thinking that they would start treatment but they sent me for more tests, incuding follicle tracking, DH did a SA, 3 & 21 bloods. I was told to come back in another 3 months!

Went back in March for my third appointment and they said we have unexplained infertility... I am ovulating fine etc etc! They did however prescribe me 2 months clomid and guess what.....yep!... told me to come back in another 3 months.

The FS did say that clomid might just give my ovaries a boost and there is a 50% chance of me getting pg in the first 3 months.

I have found waiting 3 months at a time quite difficult but we are going through the NHS so if you were to go private things would move much quicker. I do also know that sometimes couples conceive whilst waiting for treatment as you tend to relax a little more.

Hope this helps!

Good luck xx

Hi,

I had my first FS appointment in Feb, He was lovely we talked about what methods we have used ie opks, softcups, temp etc how long we had been trying, how often we had sex. He then explained to me how your body works and what he plans to do.

He took some swobs on the day as he put me straight forward for a HSG (These swobs were taken just incase I had a infection didn't want to flush it into my womb)

I had my HSG on Wed all went fine, so know I am waiting for my prescription for Clomid, I am like you day3 and 21 bloods fine so I would assume the HSG would be your next step.

I would write down all the questions that you want to ask as my mind went totally blank! Could have kicked myself when I come out as I have forgot everything I wanted to say.

Also I would advise having a shave if your FS catchs you out like me and wants to do the swobs I was on AF as well lol

Hope this helps x

Ladies, thanks for all your help...it is much appreciated.
Do you think that DH could come in with me? Or Yomo, do you think it is best in case they do a swab (might be a bit embrassing in front of DH).

My DH came with me, there was a seperate room where I had swabs so I am sure it would be fine. I fact they wanted to know DHs history etc. Good luck! x

I had my first clinic appointment last week with the specialist nurse. it was just like a booking in appointment. taking historys, getting weighed and goin through the results of my blood tests with me. She then explained what happens next and gave me some info.
Im having a hycosy on my next cycle (not sure if thats the same as a HSG). And then the cycle after im having a trans-vaginal scan. My appointment in june is already been booked to discuss the results with the consultant.
Incidentally my consultant is a gynaecologist and obstetrician who specialises in fertility.

Hope it all goes ok with u and good luck xxx

Had my appointment yesterday and it was ok!

Got a letter on Thursday night saying that DH has to be there :dohh: Wish they told me that when they made the appointment. Fortunatly DH was able to get the time off ok at short notice.

Wasn't there all that long. She went through our medical histories and all the test results. Told us DH has a low sperm count which GP had already told us. Said that we will need IVF with ICSI to be able to concieve. Explained the basics of how it will all work and gave us all the information to read through at home as well.

The only other test we have to do is a blood test for me to check my egg reserves. As long as that is high enough then we go for IVF sometime towards the end of the year.

We have to go back in three or four weeks when my last blood test is back in. She told us to write down every question we can think of for her to answer when we see her.
