Hi all,

I am currently waiting to have a scan which has been requested by DR and DH is waiting to have his SA then when the results are in we will finally be refered to a FS.

Basically I really DO NOT want to tell work we are TTC and having troubles (I guess I am embarrased). Is it possible to keep asking for time for appointments without having to tell them why?

Thanks

I just old my boss i had a hospital appointment. No employer has a right to know unless it's something that could affect your work e.g. You are infectious and work with kids or something.
There are probably only two possible responses from your boss... 'Are you ok?' In which case you can say yes. Or 'what's wrong?' , here you can tell them it's private or make something up! My place is good at respecting privacy, which is good because i don't want to tell them either.
Guess if i need ivf in a couple of months then i will have to 'fess up!

We did some pre-IVF tests in the UK and took a Thursday/Friday off as part of a long weekend 'holiday', so no need to explain anything....

For our bloods at our GP (we got lucky in that our GP was willing to do alot of pre-IVF bloods at a very reasonable rate), we did before work. Any other appointments were under the umbrella of 'a yearly check-up', into which most employers wouldn't pry more, maybe that excuse might help?

(we got lucky naturally, though!), but we were very private beforehand as we had a mc and a few very long cycles........

best wishes!

Thank you both for your replies.

I really dont want to have to fess up to work I just feel like a massive failure!
Ive had a few appointments which I have had to leave work to attend (bloods being one and my scan on tuesday) I just know there will be many more to come. My boss has already asked "hope everythings ok" The first thing that popped into my head was "yeah just having monthly problems" :dohh:

DH isnt so bothered and told his boss he is going for a SA
He has been told off for that :haha: None of our family or friends know and I am keen to keep it that way!

I work in a private school with children who are more of an inconvience than a precious miracle which is rather sad!

I just said Dr appointment for those and when I needed 2 days for each of my hysteroscopies I said gynae procedure.

My 60 year old male boss looked more embarrased that I felt and just said we wouldn't have talk about it any more. I was more worried about the nosy admin girl who would have to process my sick form but she managed to keep her mouth shut. I considered telling my boss, he would be nice about it and it took him 10 years for his first then 8 for his second so he'd actually understand.

I don't trust my boss as far as I could throw her.
She let out about one of the girls being pregnant when she was told in confidence and asked not to say anything until her 12 week scan :dohh:

She is one of these that expects to know everyone's business and makes you feel like you should tell her.
As soon as you mention hospital appointment she is questioning it :haha:

I hate people like that. Maybe you could make up something vague and uninteresting, like you're being seen for abdominal pain?

Under the pressure of her asking questions I said I was having painful periods (not a complete lie) :haha:
