My partner is taking Gabapentin (2400mg a day) is it safe to TTC? I cant find any information on the leaflet in the box. Does anybody know? Thank you!

I know the drug but not its side effects, why not pop in n ask a pharmacist? Xx

I used to be on it. I was on 1800. I was told i was not able to get pregnant on it as it was linked with birth abnormalities. I dont know if makes any difference if its your partner taking and not you. I was ask a dr. Would be interested in what info you get told. Good Luck. X

Hey, I'm a pharmacist. As far as I'm aware gabapentin is ok. Very few drugs have a known impact on sperm and so carry the 'don't get anyone pregnant' warning.

The risk is with longer term exposure through pregnancy. All anti-epileptics cause a higher chance of neural tube defects, so women taking them are advised to take a higher dose of 5mg folic acid. And there's little evidence of safety of most medications during pregnancy, because we can't exactly test them, so there's a risk of other problems, but if you need the meds then you need the meds.
