On Friday 23rd Nov at 6.15 pm I had my first contraction. My husband had just arrived home from work. At first I thought it might have been false labour / bad braxton hicks etc... I was convinced I'd go overdue like I did with my first. But the contractions continued and so I told husband we had to go.

Husband phoned hospital who started asking TONS of questions to establish if I should go in now or not - despite me continually saying that I needed to come in. In the end we decided to just go - it was 7.05 pm by this point.
I got into the back of my husband's car and my waters broke - I was so shocked. We set off and got to the bottom of the road and the head was out... followed by the rest of baby at the next contraction. Baby was born 50 minutes after my first contraction. Husband called and ambulance and I picked the baby up but couldn't hold him properly because the cord was quite short. Luckily he was crying and moving. We wrapped him in a blanket and about 5 mins later the placenta came out which I picked up and put in a muslin cloth... didn't really know what else to do!

Husband called an ambulance who came out and took us to hospital. I had a 3rd degree tear and had to have surgery. I also had to have a blood transfusion.

So that's the story of baby George's birth - born in the back of a Ford Mondeo on a Friday night outside a pub! He weighed 8lb9 and is gorgeous. We both came home yesterday :)

Wow! huge congratulations. The pub wasn't called the 'st george' or anything was it?

Already said congrats in your thread in third tri, but congratulations! You did so well. :hugs:

Aww great story! Congratulations! Hope you and baby are both well :)

Awesome birth story, huge congratulations! I would have had no idea what to do! Was your husband freaking out?

Wow! Congrats! that's one way to do it!! Xx

Wow, what a great birth story! Congratulations!

wow! were you in the news? :hugs: congrats

Lol no - I suppose I could call the papers but I think they've got bigger fish to fry!!

Wow! How one earth did your husband stay calm lol! Huge congrats x

I don't think he did - but I wasn't really paying attention lol! He was absolutely brilliant though - he unwrapped the cord from around his neck and under arm, wrapped him in a blanket and cleaned his mouth.

What was interesting was that we took George to be registered yesterday. The Registrar had to go and ask how to register him because she'd never registered a baby who'd been born in a car on the way to the hospital before! His birth certificate actually says "Place of birth: Urmston Lane, on way to Trafford General Hospital"!

Wow!!! Huge congrats hun, I hope you're both keeping well :flower:
