Hiya, this is my first post but I hope some of you can help me out!! I have been told I have GD and then I went for my 24 week Dr appointment today and my blood pressure was high too (170/40). Although Dr told me it was nothing to worry about he told me not to eat salt.

So.... no sugar, no salt. Bring on the bland food!!!

I am really pee'd off with it all at the moment. I walk for 20 mins 3 times a day with my dogs, swim at least twice a week for at least 40 mins. I don't have much sugar at all and have learnt to cut out white bread, pasta etc. Some days my bloods are fine, the next they are not.

I don't want to harm my baby but am finding the GD diet sooooooo difficult as I am eating healthily but then coming back with high readings. :growlmad:

I am also worried about pre-eclampsia as my mum had that when she was pregnant with me.

Sorry for the long post (they won't all be, I promise). Just looking for a bit of reassurance I supppose. I would hate for anything to happen to my little girl.

Any advice will be very welcome. xxx

Sorry you got it bit tough. i've just been diagnosed with Gd too and the diet is so disheartening when u eat bugger all and all the 'right' stuff then still get a high reading - i've cried a few times after taking my bloods. You really should see diabetic nurse/mw and do a diary of food for a week and if readings still high then go on medication to sort. There's a thread in this section that i set up re GD that has lots of comments so would be good for you to look thru.

you will get monitored regularly re preeclampsia but u should defo be under consultant care now and seeing them v. regulalry. big hugs xxxxxxxxx

Thanks for your reply. I have got it tough and it is really getting to me now. Unfortunately I live in Spain so we don't have diabetic nurses etc unless I pay for it, which I can't afford to do. I am going to the hospital next week about the GD I think, although my own Dr doesn't even know what that appointment is for! They don't give you a consultant either. you just have to get on with it. My Dr didn't even look at my glucose readings today!!
So disheartening! it makes me mad. I am trying so hard for my little girl and nothing is happening. I don't think the stress of the GD is not helping my blood pressure either!!
Thanks again though. xx

sorry i couldnt be of more help. are u montioring ur levels with a blood glucose tester?

Yeah I have to test 3 times a week 6 times per day (before and after each meal). I am starving on the days I test though. I find it hard to eat a whole meal at the moment, and prefer to eat little and often. I have to wait for 2 hours after I eat to do the test, by which time I am hungry again. Also can't snack on fruit etc in between meals cos have to test again before I eat. It is really doing my head in! Thank you for your posts though. I have read through the forum you suggested too. xx

So sorry, I have just checked my book and my blood pressure was 140/70, i got it confused. my discovery has made me feel a little better now though!!

good. good luck with everything - i hope someone comes along and can help a bit more. big hugs xxxxxxxxxxx
