Hi there. I was diagnosed just over a week ago and was also very upset. :hugs: Good news is that in that time I have got my head around it, implemented a new diet, seem to be in control of the blood sugars and am feeling great! Seriously, even my nausea and heartburn have disappeared!

Have you been to the hospital yet to talk it through? I've seen the diabetes midwife, dietician, obstetrician, diabetes doctor and various others. Honestly hun they will reassure you and show you how to live with it (its not forever). Sorry if you know this already but you'll be testing your blood sugar 4 times a day and trying to control by diet initially if your GTT result wasn't too high. So far so good for me on that front and hoping it continues. They will discuss your birth options a bit further down the line but I was told that with diet-control they would induce at 40 weeks and if insulin-controlled then 38/39 weeks. I am ok with this, would rather not go overdue anyway and it doesn't completely rule out the possibility of going into natural labour earlier.

Have you already had a growth scan (guessing from the title of your post)? Control is the key hun, if you can manage your blood sugar (either by diet or insulin) you'll be limiting the risk of big baby. They will keep an eye on this for you.

Also, its too early for you to worry about breech, plenty of time for the little one to move around.

xxx

This time last year I discovered I had GD and that he was breech (i was 30 weeks at the time)..he eventually turned head down and my GD was controlled by diet..I was induced at 40+1 and had a 10lb 3oz Baby naturally the next day, whos blood sugars were fine after birth..I was bloody terrified when I found out but really its not as bad as your head thinks it is right now, plus you will get zillions of extra scans so get to see your Baby loads form now on which is a bonus! If you have any Q's feel free to ask and I will do my best to help you..x

thank you TripleB, you post was very welcome!!
I have my hospital appointment tommorow morning and I'm a little scared but im sure it will be fine. to be honest if it means i get more scans GREAT!! ive only had ONE this entire pregnancy (i live in Malta) so if testing 4 times a day is what i have to do then im sure i will find a way to cope.
My biggest fear is that i wont find anything i like to eat!!!
ive just noticed that we are due about the same time-ish!!

No problem hun. You'll be fine after your appointment, they did a really good job at reassuring me after I had worked myself into a state on google! It is scary but you're not alone, there are lots of us with it, just don't blame yourself and concentrate on what's best for you and your baby. The diet isn't too bad once you've made the change to wholewheat stuff and cut out the sugar. Its trial and error to start with (I can't eat breakfast cereals or tomato ketchup - make my readings go screwy). I have to admit my growth scan wasn't great - didn't even show us the head (nasty sonographer) but you get them regularly so plenty of opportunity to see your little one. Yep - we're about 3/4 of the way there! xxx
