I got a call with my results of the 1 hr glucose test. My number was 187 so my Dr automatically diagnosed me with GD without sending me for the 3 hr test? Does this seem right? Also. She booked me with the specialist/dietation for 2 weeks from now. This seems like a long time off for something so important. Also it took over 1 week to get the initial results. Something just seems weird about all this... Anyone have any input?

When I was diagnosed this time it was also with a 1 hour test. If your numbers are above a certain point they automatically classify you because even if they had done a longer test there would not be time for your readings to be in normal range. Such as, they want your reading at 2 hours to be less than 120 and there is no way your body can process enough glucose to get it from 180 to 120 in one hour. Also GD is important to keep track of and monitor but a few days or even a couple of weeks in the second trimester of not monitoring is not going to have a drastic impact on you or baby as long as you don't go hog wild and only eat candy and soda. I had a few weeks to wait for my counseling as well. I think they may do that to give you a chance to process the news and start accepting the changes you will have to make before they give you your diet plan.
So it doesn't seem off to me, but I only have my experiances to go by. Hopefully you have no problems and can be diet controlled, until your precious baby is here.

During my first pregnancy I got a 180 on my 1 hr and passed the 3 hour with only the last reading being elevated...because of that they brushed off any abnormality because I 'passed'. In hindsight I would have benefitted from meeting with a dietician anyway. During my next pregnancy I failed both tests and was put on insulin despite an A1c of 5. Both babies were 7 lbs.
For you, doing the three hour may just drag things out longer, when either way nutritional counseling will help. 2 weeks for an appt is definitely annoying! In the meantime you could look up the things you want to avoid in your diet and cut the worst stuff out.

I can only speak for myself... This does seem off to me.

I failed after the 3 hour test- and I only went 2 days not knowing the results of the 3 hour (was told I failed on a Friday) and I was in to see the dietician on Tuesday. For me, it was very important that I have the right information so I could start making the changes I need to make. During that weekend I hadn't seen anyone- I made myself insane. There were so many scary things all over the internet that made me think gestational diabetes was super super serious and it's not, you can control it. When it's controlled- it poses little to not complications. My doctor is treating my pregnancy like a normal one because the GD is completely controlled.

I would also suggest to JUST look like GD menus... DO NOT look up possible complications- DO NOT look up what can happen if it's not controlled.. just please don't. I spent the entire weekend freaking out and crying. I found a sample menu I followed before I met with the dietician and it worked quite well. You will be totally okay. However, yeah, if I were you I might demand to see someone sooner than 2 weeks.

I failed the one hour with my son (by a lot!) but passed the 2 hour no problem. We don't do a 3 hour here. He was 7lbs 4oz at 40+6 so I don't think failing the 1 hour meant I had GD.

I had GD with Sophie, I failed the 1 and 2 hour tests.

I just had my yearly diabeted check a couple of weeks ago, my bloods were 11.3 at one hour and 9.6 at 2 hours. 11.1 or over at 2 hours means diabetes. 7.6 is a normal result. I've got impaired glucose tollerance with my current results.

My GD was only controlled for the last 5 weeks of pregnancy, the final 2 with metformin. Everything was fine.

same thing happened to me but my results came back like 203 for the 1 hour test. they did not do the 3-hour test anymore because they said it is better to start on a right diet.
