Hi there internet friends:
We went for an u/s and were then told to come back because they could not get proper head measurements.

We returned and baby was in the same position. Tech was clearly having trouble. Report went to our doctor and the OB recommended we go to the high risk OB and get a scan done where it is read right away because there was a concern (though slight of "long head" and "thin head"). Ob said 80% of the time it is nothing (everything else is on schedule, including all brain parts).

This appt was scheduled and they have included a meeting with a genetic counselor. We did not know this was part of the deal and now are very concerned.

My husband is a physician and did a lot of research and did not find anything associated with "long head", which we actually think means width in medical talk?

Wondered if you had any experience with a genetic counselor and with a first visit to a high risk OB with a referral or any experience with what was reported to us?

Thanks! and help!

Hi! I had a scare with trisomy earlier in my pregnancy, and was scheduled for a ultrasound/amnio with my OB, and a potential follow up with a genetic counselor. The ultrasound was so normal though, that the amnio and counselor were cancelled.

Another friend of mine was monitored closely throughout her entire pregnancy by a high risk OB - she preferred the demeanor and treatment from the high risk OB to her family doctor, so often they are very good at presenting things in clear but unscary ways. The genetic counselor thing I think is pretty standard if there is any question whatsoever about fetal development. My understanding from my friend is that they basically provide information and work to answer your questions and concerns.

I hope things go well at your next scan and it all becomes a moot point!

I started crying at the genetic counselor meeting but in the end, we were discharged from the high risk OB and returned to our regular OB as no anomalies were found... So good!

Thanks for your reply.
