Hi all! :flow:

I've just had a call from my midwife saying that my GTT results came out a bit high (she didn't say exact numbers) and I have to go and see her tomorrow!

I've got diabetes in my family and my BMI is 35 so I'm a good 'candidate' for GD......

I've had a good read up about GD and it seems that 85-90% of women can control GD with a good diet and exercise, and 10-15% of women need either tablets or injections.

My problem is this..........

My diet is very poor  I don't eat and fruit or veg :nope: I don't eat pasta, rice or cheese :nope:
Although I don't necessarily binge eat or snack throughout the day, this leaves my diet full of crap (basically)

Please please please does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to help keep my sugars under control???

Also, the night before my GTT I was at a party and was merrily munching on some cake at about 11pm () before someone pointed out that I was supposed to be fasting from midnight (not the best thing to be eating the night before my GTT!) Would this of had an effect on my results?

Sorry for the ramble ladies, just going through some panic here!

Hi I was diagnosed on sun and ive managed to keep my levels really low with diet and some exercise although to be honest I dont think the exercise makes a different to my numbers! Just swap to wholemeal bread, brown rice etc, you will get told whats best to eat and I promise its really not that bad! I cheat occasionally but only if I know im going swimming that night, tonight I had mcdonalds but im going swimming lol. I was told to not eat anything from 10pm the night before but my blood sugar was fine before the glucose drink and then it shot up so it probably didnt make a difference what you ate hun. xx

Exercise does help! It helps your body to process the sugar faster. You should aim for 30mins a day on top of what you already do.
As for the diet, don't worry so much about eating fruit the sugar in fruit can make your levels go crazy!
Swap processed food for fresh- for example no oven chips, have potatoes cut into chip shapes roasted in the oven.
No white bread! Swap for brown/wholemeal
NO sugary drinks! Have diet/no sugar drinks, but watch out as some of these are not good.
If you do have GD then you will see a dietician who will tell you what foods to avoid. I'm a really fussy eater and have found the diet fine but to tell you the truth after doing it for 2 months I really want a pizza!
