Gestational Diabetes Quick Question x

Okay so today i have been put up on my dosage again so i am on 16 units in a morning and 18 units on a night of Humalog Mix 25. I also take 500mg metformin a day too.

Can any of you please tell me is this normal for 31 weeks 4 days gestation???

What dosage could i expect to go up to before i reach term ?????

I'm type 1 but i had what seemed like gestational diabetes in both pregnancies. Each person is different regarding insulin but from what i remember around 30 weeks i was on 18 units of fast acting with each meal which is quite alot. I wasn't on long acting of metformin though. xx

Hi dosage is different for everyone..it depends on a number of factors..insulin resistence,sensiticty, insulin to carb ratios etc. If that is what your doc is telling you need..it's what you need. I started on 40 units a day when I was first diagnosed. By the end of my pregnancy I was on 156 untis a day. I thought it was too much and questioned my doc about the amounts. They explained that the amounts I was on kept my sugars at the level they need to be.Talk to your Diabetes Education center and good luck
