Hi girls,
so apperantly I have gest diabetes  I got my blood work done yesterday at the lab for 3 hours after failing the first test and tomorrow I am going to my doctor to see what she'll say. I am worried and I never thought I would have that.. not overweight, I was 115lbs before pregnancy now 131 at 25 weeks.. I feel down and worried.. does anyone have that and what do you do when you have it? I heard they put you on a special diet and what about delivery?

Thank you

Hi!
I have gestational diabetes as well. Diagnosed at 9 weeks and insulin dependant by 11 weeks. For me, it was expected, just a lot earlier in this pregnancy than I thought it would be (diabetes runs thick in my family). It's not been too hard to manage, although it is getting more difficult the further along I get. As far as what I do, I check my levels with finger pricks 5 times a day and I do 2-3 insulin injections a day, always 1 with breakfast and dinner and sometimes I need one at lunch. The diet they put me on really wasn't anything different from what I normally eat so that wasn't really hard, just monitoring your carbs (which break down into sugar) and making sure you eat plenty of protein. As far as my delivery goes, we're still up in the air about that, but it's kind of become one of those things we will take one step at a time. I have to start having nonstress tests for the baby at 30 weeks to check the placenta function, so provided we can keep my sugar levels under control and my placenta keeps working my OB said she saw no reason that I couldn't have a perfectly normal delivery, so we'll see what happens. Just try not to stress about it hun. The good thing with gestational diabetes is that most of the time it goes away within 6 weeks of delivery and it's not like it's a death sentence, its just time consuming. So just breathe

Hi hun..so sorry to hear about your GD. .I was diagnosed with GD at 6 months pregnant..and like you was not overweight...However the doc diagnosis was wrong and I actually have type 1 diabetes...I was on 5 needles a day while pregnant and now take 4 a day..lots of testing and strict diet. Please pm me if you have any questions...I can only share my experience but I will help you any way I can.:hugs:

Thank you girls! :) I am seeing my doctor today so we'll see what she will put me on..

Hi, I agree with the other two ladies, it's not the end of the world, even though it can be quite distressing when you first find out! :hugs:

I found out I had GD at 28 weeks and so far all I've had to do is test my blood sugar before and after every meal, and watch what I eat. As long as my baby comes out okay, I figure it's worth giving up cakes for a while. I just hope it goes away after he's born! :)

Good luck with it, I hope your doctor appointment went well. xx

Update: I have to prick my fingers when i wake up, 1hr after breakfast, 1hr after lunch and 1hr after dinner. I also gotta attend a class to learn how to eat "healthier"..anywayys can you ladies please tell me what do you eat for breakfast lunch a dinner and what are your snacks? That'll help me to better understand what to eat. Thank you!!!!

My biggest thing is to eat lots and lots of protein...chicken, fish, lots of green veggies...my dr said i can pretty much pick and choose my own meals, but with breakfast and lunch to have 15g of carbs and dinner i can have 30g. my huge no-no's are bananas though, they send my sugar through the roof!

I have it too, and I was REALLY worried. I am like you- I didn't fit the profile AT ALL- it just happened.

They gave me a monitor and with moderate exercise and diet- everything has been fine. YOU WILL BE OKAY!

Update: I got my copy of my 3 hr lab results. Here they are

Before the gluccose drink 73
1hr later: 181- goal 180
2hrs: 155-goal 155
3hrs: 148-goal 140

I don't see that big of a deal.. am I wrong? I mean I was sitting in the room for the whole 3 hours didn't even walked to the bathroom. If I had some movement I was gonna burn some of the sugar for sure. What do you girls think?
Also I weight myself this morning and lost 1.5lbs. Again I have very fast metabolism and when I don't eat whatever I feel like eating I loose weight quickly.. I am supposed to be gaining not loosing right?
