So, unfortunately I have been diagnosed with gestational hypertension because my blood pressure has been consistely elevated over the last week (ranging from 160/80 to 170/90). I am being transferred from a midwife to a high risk OB-GYN and am terrified!!!! I was wondering if anyone is or has been in the same boat and could let me know what to expect and if everything is going to be okay with my little one

Im sorry, i have no advice - never experienced that!

I just wanted to wish you luck! :flower:

My Bp with DD was elevated from 29 weeks, so not quite as ealry as yours. I was kept under mw care though untill I got to 38 weeks all that happend for me was I was induced on my due date.

Hope things go well for you.

Hi, I was induced early with my first baby because of this but I don't want to go into detail as that was 20 years ago and my MW has told me they do things a lot different now, which is a good thing!

I am currently 16+6 (2nd pregnancy) and it looks like this pregnancy is going the same way as my BP is already around the 150/80 mark. I have to have it checked fortnightly until 28 weeks and then it will be weekly. I am under a consultant and I Have been told it is very likely that I will have my baby at 38 weeks again but they are being very over cautious with me due to my age and past history.

I am sure you and your little one will be fine, especially now that they are keeping a very close eye on you!

I had high blood pressure during pregnancy but I had high blood pressure to start with... it went down for first tri and during 2nd tri started creeping up. I had growth scans once a month to make sure my baby was growing enough as high blood pressure can cause issues with the placenta and the baby tends to be smaller as less nutrients can get to the baby. I also had weekly ultrasounds to measure the fluid level as if the placenta wasnt providing enough then the baby wouldnt be peeing as much which results in lower fluid level. I also had non-stress tests (where they monitor the baby's heartrate & kicks) 2ce a week to make sure the baby was handling the stress of the high blood pressure. At 36+6 I had a growth ultrasound which showed that she wasnt growing and was going to be 4 1/2 -5lbs & they decided it would be best to induce. She was born the following day (37 weeks) and weighed 5 lbs 14oz. She didnt have any issues being born that early or from my high blood pressure.

Tips for you that I was told : lay on your left side.... during the day take 1/2 hr a few times a day to just lay down. I was told that it would be best to not be working so I started maternity leave in the beginning of Sept (was due xmas) but was never put on bedrest but was told that was an option they had considered. Limit your salt intake and try to reduce your stress as that will make your high blood pressure increase even more.

I was scared during pregnancy because of the high blood pressure but everything worked out fine. The dr's were just extra cautious which is a good thing! They also monitored my urine more closely & I had to do some 24 hr urine tests at home which were a pain! They also talked a lot about signs for preeclampsia cause with high blood pressure it increases your risk for pe. (Swollen hands & feet, vision issues, rapid weight gain, pain in your upper belly). Also high bp increases risk of placenta abruption - so if you have any bleeding at all I was told to go to the e.r. right away.

:hugs: Good luck to you! If you want to chat you can pm me!

I've had high bp all the way through and have been on tablets since about 13wks. I was already high risk due to previous complications but its just meant more appointments with the midwife, growth scans every 4wks since 28wks and induction on my due date if everything was going ok or earlier if baby was small. Everything's under control now though and my last 2 scans have shown baby to be BIG so i'm being induced at 38+2 now :) good luck hun x
