I was wondering when your LOs were able to get in & out of their car seats independently?

My daughter is almost 5 and she can get herself out of the car seat but can't get herself into it as she can't do the seat belt.

Violet is 4 and she recently started buckling herself, but then she stopped. I think it can get a little confusing with the straps being prone to twisting. She can't un-buckle though.

DD1 is nearly 4 .

She can get in her seat herself but can't do the seat belt/harness . She will also climb out herself once shes unbelted. Still needs help getting out of the car door

Jacob can climb in his seat but struggles with getting seat belt into the buckle (tbf it is awkward compared to other seat belts, even I lose my rag with it). He can unclip the belt and climb out fine once I have opened the car door (his car door has child lock on so he can't open it)

My 4 year old son can get in and out of his car seat himself, can unbuckle it and most of the time can buckle it too. My 2 year old daughter gets in and out of her seat herself, can unbuckle it (had to have words about not doing it when driving!) but can't buckle it.

My LO will be 5 in April and she can do the harness buckle herself but not the clip one at the bottom. I haven't even attempted to teach her how to undo them as I don't want her trying it out while we're driving.

She can climb in/out just fine herself once the buckles are undone.

DD is 3 and a half and can fasten and unfasten the chest clip, but can't do the buckle between her legs. I don't think she's ever tried??

eldest can do it all herself (open/close car door, in and out of seat, fasten and unfasten seatbelt)
dd2 is 3 and she can climb in and out of her seat, but can't buckle or unbuckle her clip (like above, I don't think she has ever actually tried!)
2yr old can climb in herself but thats about it! She probably could get out but I always leave her till last so I just lift her out myself

Ds1 is 5 but refuses to even try and do his buckle, this is our thing that we are trying to teach him at the minute

Dd can open/close door, get in and do seat belt. She could get into her chair by herself at 3 & could do the seat belt herself when we moved to a chair that uses the car seat belt instead of a 5 point harness - maybe at 4 and a half. She's only just got the hang of the door at 5 - she doesn't have the child lock on anymore & is very good at not opening the door until I tell her she can. She's terrified of falling out of the car so has never touched the handle when we're driving.

Same here. He can & has done everything except fasten the crotch buckle. Idk why he doesn't want to do it.

My son gets himself into the car seat & out but I do the buckles and I am not going to teach him how to do it as I do not want the risk of him undoing them himself

Rio can do it. Our car is 2 door so I open the door and pull the chair forward and he climbs into the back, sits in and buckles himself up. Sometimes I do his seatbelt for quickness because he takes FOREVER but he likes to do it most of the time. He climbs out of his seat himself too, and over the front seats via the headrests to jump into the drivers seat before we lock the car also :haha:

My son is 4.5 and has been able to for a couple of months now.

My DS1 is 3.5. He started climbing into his car seat and doing the chest clip right before he turned 3. I still do the bottom buckle. I have not taught him how to unbuckle them for the same safety reasons everyone else stated.

DS2 is 18 months and I still put him in (he is rear facing still so it's way too difficult to teach him to climb in) and do his buckles.

For about 6 months so about 2 and three quarters. He doesn't do the buckles though

Sophie gets in and out just fine, but can't buckle or unbuckle her harness. Thomas is in a regular belt now and he does it all himself.

I wouldn't like a harnessed child do do their own anyway, I need to check the chest clip is at the right level, and the tightness of the harness for each ride.
