Getting on with things in the meantime....

I'm thinking of booking an African safari with a girlfriend for later in the year, we are both 35+ and just started TTC (not together LOL). We're also celebrating 15 years of friendship which has outlasted our first marriages, and living in different countries.

We figure that making plans for the trip of a lifetime will be a good focus for our energies of the next few months rather than stressing over TTC, but we also have to swear to each other than if one or both of us gets pg then we are still going.

Is this madness or a positive and affirming action?

Anyone else planning a big trip this year?

It's not madness I think it is too easy to lose sight of many things in life when all involved with TTC.

DH and I still continue to do all the things we used to do and want to do (money allowing) as we know if we are blessed with a LO we will have more restraints on our time so might as well enjoy while we can

I think that it's great that you are doing this - sometimes we can put too much on hold which means we don't plan anything and then never get to do anything. As long as it is something that you can both still do if pg then go for it (sounds like it is) - and maybe get your holiday insurance as soon as you book it just in case!!

Sounds like it will be an awesome trip anyway!

Now I've decided I feel really positive about it, yeah we'll not exactly be backpacking, will be doing an escorted tour and sticking to the safe places.

We both reckon we're slightly more likely to get pg if concentrating on other things - this is not logical but it feels right!

We have a trip planned, but not until early September....He is taking some time off early July for a 'staycation'....I am finding that having something special to look forward to is important for my mental health...

I know we're away for a few nights in July for our anniversary but I don't know where we are going but I don't mind as I know DH will have sorted something fab

Last big trip I took was when I came over to the US Have'nt been anywhere since.

Lived in Phoenix for 8 years before moving here....

Just make sure to find out what vaccines you will need and avoid getting them in the first trimester. So the single vaccines are no problem, get them when AF shows up, however there are a few (esp. Hep B) that are 3 shots over the course of 6 months. This is the reason why we are not going to Thailand while TTC!
Also, malaria prophylaxis should be avoided if possible during early pregnancy...

That's a good point, I will get my vaccinations done as soon as possible, this month's cycle is probably a bust due to timing (OH works away) so I might do this now.

I've read up about malaria, think we are going to stick to the southern part of SA which you don't need Lariam for.
