Hey guys, i'm wanting to get started on my daughter's nursery, but i have NO idea where to start. let me tell you what we're doing.

We are painting the top trim board, and the bottom base board in the room pink, and adding a thick stripe across the middle of the walls, then over that pink stripe we're doing white ballerina stenciling.

Where do i start? i've never painted anything like this, nor have i ever been a part of painting. i know i need paint burshes, painter plastic, painter tape.

Hi there - didn't want to just read and run.

I'm sorry I can't really help as I wouldn't have a clue where to start either, but from what you have described it sounds like it is going to look just gorgeous!

Good luck xx

start from the top and work your way downwards! :)

I would mask (tape) off all the sections first, this normally takes forever and is VERY boring!

Then I would paint the top board, then the middle, and finally the base.

Then wait for a few hours and see if anything needs a second coat of paint.

A day or 2 later I would go back and do the stencilling. You want the paint to be completely dry before you do that :)

I personally buy very cheap paint brushes and rollers so I can just throw them away afterwards. I'm far too lazy to spend ages making sure they're thoroughly washed after every use, but maybe that's just me  Some white spirit is handy to have around to for any accidental spillages or paint on window sills etc.

Sounds like it's going to be a lovely nursery :flower:

but before you start anything wash the walls with sugar soap and water because if any dust goes into your paint it will ruin the colour.

And do gloss paint on doors, skirting boards and windows last. + before you start even the wall washing, cover your carpets with plastic or old sheets and tape that to the skirting board.

Seconded on the sheets or plastic to protect the carpet/flooring. Especially if you've never really painted before. It gets everywhere the first couple of times you have a go.

Good tip before glossing woodwork is to paint them with matt paint first as it gives the gloss something to stick to!
