Hi all, Me and my son had to leave my Ed's house in about three hours as he turned violent on me. This was six months ago and I left some very sentimental things that I want back but he is refusing. My ex is very controlling and manipulative and this is his last bit of control over me. The house is his and he has changed the locks. Does anyone have any experience of this and Is there anything I can do? The police tell me to speak to a lawyer and a lawyer said they would write a letter to him for £200!!! Which he will probably ignore anyway. Then it's court but I can't afford the fees and don't qualify for legal aid. It's upsetting my whole family as there are heirlooms at his house that he won't give back. I hate him for this and just want my things. Please help, thanks in advance x

when i left me ex he wasnt violent but we had a few issues afterwards with him harrasing me the police told me that if i still had things in house they would at a pre arranged time meet me at the property to collect what was mine, if the ex said it wasnt i had to prove it

Unfortunately unless you go to court and sue then there isn't a lot you can do. Police can't do anything

You can write a demand letter to him saying you want the items back or you will take him to civil court and if he doesn't respond and return them then you can go about doing it yourself . Small claims court you don't need a lawyer . You can get the demand letter template off the internet and then you can file a claim in the court on your own . If you win he has to pay any fees from you suing

Basically if you can find a way to file it will be easier for him to just give you the stuf then get screwed over it court
