I have the liquid in my fridge and just keep looking at it. I want nothing more than to throw it away. But alas I know I have to chug this nasty drink. On the bright side I'm excited for my appointment afterwards. He was measuring behind last time but I feel confident he'll measure either bigger or right on time now. (As I've almost doubled in belly size in just two weeks!) I just love seeing him and usually she asks me if I would like to :D

Have you drunk it before? When I had the test in my last pregnancy it didn't taste bad at all. Good luck hun x

Yeah with my first pregnancy I had to have it as well but it was the orange one and it was warm :( this time I was given the fruit punch one and I put it in the fridge as I hear it makes it taste better.

I think I had the three hour test last time and they let me wait it out in the lounge at the community hospital, it was a rare moment of quiet for me as I had a one year old at home at the time. I even read some of a book!! Lol x

Good luck.

Mine is next Friday. I have the orange one and it's in my fridge. The nurse said it tastes like stale orange soda.... I don't know if I believe that :haha:

Though I will get through it because I have my 3D/4D scan next Friday right after I get my blood drawn so I am excited!

Not looking forward to it.... I know it's coming.... ewwwwwwww!

When is the glucose test done usually? How many weeks? I don't see my ObGyn again until 24 weeks, maybe he'll mention it then.

If you don't have sugars in your urine leading up to the test, do you still have to take it?

I got my bottle of orange stuff to drink at my 22 week appt. I will be 26 weeks 5 days when I take the glucose test. I think they said it is done between 26 and 28 weeks? I just kind of go with the flow of what my doctor says. It's my first so I don't know when things are supposed to be done. I usually go to the appt and if they say "this has to be done at __ weeks" I go okay, sounds good. :haha:

I didn't have it done in my first pregnancy but my second pregnancy was measuring on the large side so they did one then. They're going to do one this time because DD2 was so big and they're going to keep a closer eye on me this time. She weighed 10lb 9oz at birth x

My dr. does the glucose test at 28 weeks. I never thought they were that bad as far as taste goes, but the high amount of sugar makes me feel a little sick to my stomach for a few minutes.

Urgh got mine in a couple weeks! Its not so much the drink (which at my surgery I have to pay for - its not much, just a few quid, but its the principle!! :haha: ) but the fasting! I can't have anything from 8pm the night before until about 11.30/12pm the following day - do they not realise I'm pregnant and get hungry!!!! :haha:

Ahhhh I know the food struggle. This is the problem I am having right now. I was almost excited to drink it. Not as bad as the first time honestly. But still not something I could EVER be fond of. It does taste like stale soda but worse than that it tastes almost like a mix of that and stale sweedish fish candy to me. I'm just happy to have my blood drawn in an hour have my appointment then finally eat! My doctor said it's done between weeks 24 and 28 as a precautionary thing. She asked if I would like to do it at this one or the next appointment I said this one just to get it done and over with I'm currently 25 weeks.

I still think its weird how some drs tell you to fast and others don't. We're talking the 1 hour one right? Mine just said to eat a nutritious breakfast (and lunch as I have mine in the afternoon) and to watch sugars a few days before. I got the fruit punch one too and its just hanging out in my fridge till my appt at 28 weeks.

Yeah its the one hour, my doctor told me to eat as I normally would but that's what they told my mom when she was pregnant a year ago as well and all she had before hand was a water and a banana and she failed and had to do the 3 hour one. So I figure if I fasted with my first I can do it with this one. Rather not fail because of a banana! Haha

i didn't have to fast with in my first pregnancy, and of course I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour "with flying colors"

I may be a bit strange, but I didn't think the orange drink was bad at all, but then again I do have a sweet tooth. :)

You girls that get to drink it at home are lucky! Here we have to drink it at the blood test clinic and then aren't allowed to leave their waiting room until the hour (or 3 hours!) is up and they've taken another blood sample.

I kind of like the orange drink, haha. Reminds me of trips to McDonald's when I was little...

With my first that's what they made me do! It was horrible just sitting there. It felt like forever! && to me that's so weird you guys like the orange one but, I can understand that because mcdonalds and hi-c was a friday night thing when I was a kid too. But I always prefered the milk. Weird, I know. :)

Yeah, I get that. I'd be pretty po'd if I failed cuz of a banana. Stupid bananas.

And yes, I'm also pretty thankful that I can drink it and then go to the Dr.

Since week 15 I've been checking my sugar first thing in am before eating and about an hour after eating dinner at night. I'd much rather monitor my own numbers and prevent things than take a nasty test to "catch" it. Being proactive is healthier and as long as my numbers are good, I'm refusing the glucose test on that principle alone. What are they gonna do, argue with me? I'm keeping a journal of the numbers for them. Ladies, stay proactive about your health! You decide how healthy you and baby are, not the doctor :)

That's my point, the test is fine. For any ladies who are due to have it and are reading this thread please don't panic it's not that big of a deal, even if it is the three hour version of the test. Yes you drink a drink that may not be to everyone's taste but it's not foul and the waiting is fine if you take a book or magazine with you. I think we're blowing this a bit out of proportion, it really isn't that big an ordeal. X
