Going back to school in August, should we take a break from TTC?

My husband and I have been TTC for 1.5 years with no luck. We found out I had hypothyroidism and my levels are finally regulated and I started taking iron supplements because of low iron which has apparently helped my cycles because I just had my first 29 day cycle in over 2 years! Since it has taken so long I've decided to go back to school in August (it's a 9 month program). Since school is 9 months, if I got pregnant now I would have the baby a month or so before graduating so My husband and I discussed taking a break until October but I just feel like we're so close, I don't want to take a break. :nope: I'm torn but am 100% sure about starting school in August. What do you all think?

I'm all for it, but I'm biased...I went for my entire Masters degree while ttc and that was an 18 month program. I say go for it, and to be honest like you said, you'd only be in school for another month or two when you have the baby if you do fall preggo right now. I know that will be a huge adjustment, but you and the hubby will manage. And if you don't fall pregnant in the next few months, at least you didn't miss out on anything and nothing would be any different. I'm actually looking into my doctorate and plan on ttc the whole way through...well hopefully not the whole way through. But seeing how you are dead set on going back to school, it sounds to me like your mind is pretty much made up. Good luck!

I'm with No Doubt. There's room for both goals to be achieved. I wouldn't sacrifice one for the other, and would only take a couple month break for your sanity. Depending on your courses and uni, you could also take online classes if need be.

If we were normal, fertile women then I would say hold off on TTC...but LTTC is a different circumstance. You don't want to miss that potential, slim chance you could conceive.

I'm be the voice of dissent. I would time things so that if you got pregnant, you would be due about 2 months or so after graduation. That way you can do your course, be pregnant and allow your body to have a few cycles with it's new normal. It may actually give you a bit of a vacation for all of your TTC stress for the summer and reconnect with your husband without thinking about fertility before you get busy with school.

I can see it from both sides, so I'm going to be no use what so ever!

Me and DH used to 'take breaks' from TTC when we had important dates coming up, like our wedding because I wanted to fit into my dress :haha: but low and behold that was just wishful thinking!

If you want to take a break, it might do you good to have a little bit of a 'sex break' (as my doctor puts it!) and come back to TTC refreshed and a little bit more relaxed and rested, I think all LTTTCers need the odd month here and there, and as much as it pains me to say it because I hate it being said to me, in the grand scheme of things a few months isn't long at all.

On the other side, me and DH have stopped putting TTC or life on hold waiting for a baby. We just carry on doing what we're doing while TTC in the background, because to be frank, the odds are stacked against us. So we're moving house in a few weeks, I've just got a new job, we've even booked a 2 week holiday with the family for July 2013 and we're not even thinking about getting pregnant, because it just makes it harder when we don't.

Told you I would be no good! But best of luck with school, i hope its everything you want it to be :flower:
