I will be having a c-section on Dec 1st but I am very concerned about how well my (now 10 month old) baby will cope with being away from me for so many days. He is still breast fed during the night (as he is a very restless sleeper) and is a real mummys boy.

I'm booking into the hospital next week - it is a small country hospital so I am almost guaranteed a 4-bed room to myself so I'm hoping that the hospital will let my husband and baby boy stay in there with me at least for a couple of the nights.

On the other hand I really could use the time to relax and recover with just me and the new baby??? Or maybe the hospital wont allow my husband and baby to stay with me???

Would really appreciate hearing of other mum's experiences with this.

It really depends on the hospital. And the mood of the people on duty. For example the hospital "rules" where I was delivering was 2 people were allowed to stay when pushing began, but I wasn't a screamer (LOL) and was in control and the "crowd" was quiet and stayed out of the way so they allowed 5 to stay for delivery. Most hospitals will bring a cot for the daddy and I'm sure it'll be fine you have your son.. I mean he is nursing so it's unlikely they'd say no... But if you'd like to try it for a night to see if your son can deal so you can get some rest go for it! Worse case the hubby has to bring in the son in the middle of the night! good luck!

Well I found out that the hospital I am going to does not allow OH & LO to stay in with me :( It will be tough for my LO to be separated from me so I will have to prepare him as best as I can over the coming months and stay for as few days as possible post-op.

I think if you are still breastfeeding and you are wanting your son to stay to allow you to commence tandem feeding you need to be writing to the head of midwifery or obsterics, or whoever is incharge of the wards. If the hospital is pro-breastfeeding then they really should making an allowance for you LO to stay with you, afterall its not that you want him to stay for your convinience, but so he can eat.

That said I was nursing all through the night with a co-sleeping baby who slept with the boob in her mouth more or less all night at 10 months, but by 12 months she was sleeping through on her own. So he may decide he is reasy to self settle and sleep by himself before baby arrives, or at least may be ok with it if your not there.

Whats your supply like? Do you think he is likley to still be feeding when the new baby arrives? I'm still feeding at the moment, but my supply is more or less totally gone and I think my DD will stop pretty soon.
