Im currently a sahm on benefits but desperately looking to get into work. Ive been looking for ages for a part time job (less than 16 hours) but have really struggled with finding childcare for my lo whos 3 in april. I phoned up a nursery as i was told about the free funding avaiable but i was told i missed the deadline due to something or other ( the fact that shes 3 in april means im too late?)

I know working 16h or less doesnt affect your benefits, and tht was ideally what i wanted to do untill i can go back to college in september and qualify for a proper job, but now im thinking about just going into work full time.

How on earth do i work out how much better off im going to be based on the minimum wage, and having to pay for childcare ect ect ect? its all a big head mess :(

Hiya, you'll get the free nursery hours from the start of the term following her 3rd birthday. I've just started job hunting as well. :)

Try the benefits advisor on directgov, will give you an idea of figures etc.
