Hi there I have to have a c-section because of how my first birth went and its looking like i may have to go under. My main question is after the birth can we request that my partner waits to see the baby until we can both see it for the first time? We dont know what were having and both really want that special moment together

I can't really give much advice here, it may be best to ask your midwife or call the labour ward as I'd imagine it would depend on your individual hospital.

I know at ours that it is very unlikely that this would happen as there are no staff to care for the baby, unless the baby requires special care due to something happening. It might depend on staffing at the hospital.

I'd call and find out for sure and explain your reasonings, I completely get you; me and OH were the same except I wanted him to tell me what we had... I ended up with an emcs though and he followed her into another room and then came back with her and told me, not quite what I'd wanted (I'd imagined him looking at her and then straight at me and telling me) so I missed his initial reaction. Was still a lovely moment though.

Good luck :flower:

I was put under for an emcs after some serious bleeding with clots. The flaws I can see in your plan is- wont your hubby be at the delivery? Even though I was out of it they still did immediate skin to skin and hand expressed my colostrum for first feed on my chest, I woke up about 2 hours later. So during this your hubby will see bubs bits!! Also whilst I was out of it bub was cared for by hubby with me so we could continue skin to skin. I was awake in photos but recall nothing! My family and friends were not allowed to see baby until I was awake and had seen him properly. All I can think is those first few hours I was out if it I'm glad my hubby was there to care for bub, the first few hours are all skin to skin bonding, I couldn't bare the thought of my bub spending them with a stranger :( at least in my few minutes in and out of consciousness I saw hubby there with my bub, and he would place Jace on me, however I was too drowsy to talk/ hug him and barely remember this time except for pics

I had my first c section under general anaesthetic and this would not have been possible for us. As a previous poster has said they did not have staff to care for ds1 and as ge was fit and well they took him straight through and left him with DH (who was not allowed to be in the theatre as it was a general). I didn't get to see him for about an hour when I had come round and was in recovery.

I think its doable, your DH wont be in theater when they deliver since youll be under general- by tge time they give baby to him, itll be diapered and swaddled- just tell him not to un diaper till you are with them (and ask nurses before hand not to tell lol) ... may work?

Im not sure really, i had an emcs under general and my OH wasnt allowed in the room when our son was born. I missed him meeting his son for the first time but think it would depend on the hospital

I had an emcs under a general and my husband was in with me?!
