This thread is not a BF vs FF debate thread.

I read a lot of pro-breastfeeding literature when I was pregnant with my son, but couldn't nurse. Thanks to what I'd read, I was convinced I was somehow damaging my son by giving him a bottle.

I just checked out "Is Breast Best?" by Joan Wolf from the library, and I have to say, I wish I had read it before my son was born. She takes an honest look on the studies out there that are used to scare bottle-feeders and flame mommy wars and talks about why most of those studies are flawed scientifically, and which ones do have scientific merit.

So, anyone looking for a good book that cuts through some of the myths that are out there regarding FF, this one may be a good one for you.

:flower:

Curious - have any of you read it? What did you think?

I repeat, this thread is not a BF vs FF debate thread.

I'm definitely going to check it out! there is so much misinformation out there and it really scared the hell out of me when we had to turn to FF. Donor milk or milk sharing is not an option around here. So I was very worried when I first started to use formula :(

Well, I can tell you that my daughter has been ff since birth (now almost 7 months) due to a medical condition that I have and she is beautiful, intelligent, not obese, hasn't died of SIDs, hasn't had a single ear infection or any other illness for that matter, we have a very close bond etc. Anyway, it is nice that there is a book out there that scrutinizes some of these so-called studies and gives unbiased information to those who have to or choose to formula feed.

I've not read Joan Wolf's book, but I've read Suzanne Barston's book "Bottled Up" which is a similar idea. It's very good, and it's nice to read something which is honest about how wrong the villifcation of formula is, without bashing breastfeeding in the process.

i want to read that one, too, but our library doesn't carry it. :( glad you found that one to be a good read!

Do you have a Kindle? There's a Kindle edition. You could also request that your library order the book in? :) Which reminds me that I need to do that for Joan Wolf's book at our local library, so thank you for this thread :)

thanks! i don't have a kindle, but i will put in a request for the book at the library. :)
