Good cakes

Is it something you can learn, or something you have to have a knack for?

I have only ever made 2 decent large cakes..... The rest fail!

bit of both hun...altho i think i get my cooking talent form my dad my mum likes to try "new things" but they dont turn out to good lol

I agree it is a bit of both... I am always trying new things and some are great, some not lol!

On the subject of gateau... I dunno if there's a specific recipe... I believe gateau (french for cake) just tends to be a rich, luxurious cake of some sort. I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong though

I hope its a bit more of learning than it is knack cos I dont wanna waste all this money. lol
