I feel like im never gonna make it work! Ive tryed my nearly 4 month old so many times with a bottle of breast milk which would make life easier when im out and about as i wont breast feed in public (just dont feel comfortable) but he just wont take a bottle. Any good news stories would be great if you have had a similar experience x

Hes just kind of playing with it in his mouth and getting very frustrated until eventually he crys and crys, the annoying this is at 6-8 weeks we got him to have a bottle about 6 times now he just wont have it!

EDIT Weeks on still no luck, gone back round all 3 bottles i have and he still wont take them, im finding it stressfull as i really want to do some keep in touch days at work but cant! My husband has tryed him lots too when i havnt been in the room!

I had one who didn't like the bottle. Eventually after trying what felt like a million different bottles he would take Playtex drop ins yellow nipples. My son liked the texture of those.

Same here, DD tool bottle from 3-6 weeks then stopped. I don't think we had her practice enough, once she took it we were like okay great and didn't worry about giving her a regular bottle. To solve this We had my husband give her the bottle once every day for a week and I left the house. She eventually got it and we have her a bottle every day possible for several weeks after. Like PP We also tried lots of bottles and to this day (she's 6 mo now) she only will take it. It's a hilarious breast shaped nipple bottle called comotomo. Worth the money!

sorry only 1 out of my 7 took a bottle with no issues i am sure its just different babies keep trying x

DS1 never took a bottle which caused huge stress when we had babysitter / wanted to go out because he would scream and not eat. We vowed to do things differently with DS2.

At first DS2 wanted nothing to do with the bottle either, but we consistently gave him one of his feeds per day in a bottle. At first he'd sputter on an ounce or just lick it, but after a few days he'd drink it and now he'll drink a 4 oz bottle no problem. I think consistency and not giving up was key.

I still breastfeed from tthe breast all feeds except for one per day when we give him the bottle just to keep him used to it (and I pump the next day's bottle while giving him that days).

We used the medela teat which uses the same suck action as bf. It took her a couple if days of oh trying when she was a bit hungry but not starving, to work out how to take it but we got there.
Try getting someone else to give it to her to start with and don't expect a full fed straight away.

Update***
Spoke too soon, my lo is now refusing it too. :(

OH NO did she start taking it again, ive had a break for a week as i was getting too stressed trying, i will try again tomoz x

Have you tried a faster flow nipple?

Also - do you try to feed the bottle or does someone else? Some babies will only take a bottle if mom is no where to be found. My baby refused to take a bottle until *I* fed it to her...so they're all different. Mine probably didn't take one for 2-3 months but she did eventually so I'd keep trying.

Also, do you have a nursing cover for making BFing in public more discreet? Or do any of the places you go have nursing rooms for moms? Lots of malls have them here. Or could you go sit in your vehicle for privacy?

Hello, no i havnt tryed a fast flow , im going to try a beaker next and loads of people have said fast flow worked for them! Either my hubby or myself tryed the bottle , i have tryed going out the room but not out the building lol, maybe i need to leave my flat completely lol? We do have a nursing room in 1 shopping center we go to so have starting going there more and yes usually i sit in the car but only my hubby drives , also im going back to work january so really do need hi8m off the boob by then :wacko:x

DS1 never took a bottle. We were panicking trying him with every brand under the sun in the weeks before I was due to return to work when he was 8 months but he was very resistant. In the end we had success with a doidy cup. They require more supervision than a bottle once LO is a bit older but it makes transitioning to a regular open cup much easier later on and they're easier to maintain then bottles.
