Well i thought i would do my birth story as i used to love reading birth stories whilst pregnant :)

I was due on 07.04.11 but that day came and went which was very annoying as i was so ready to meet my little man. I really hoped i wouldnt have to be induced but unfortunately my boy was to comfy and was happy to stay in my belly so i was booked for induction on 18th April.

On Monday 18th we got up at 6.30am and got ready to make our way to the hospital, i had hardly slept that night as could not get comfortable.
We arrived at the hospital just before 8am and was checked in and taken to the ward where i would stay until i was in active labour. I cant say i enjoyed being on a ward with other ladies as it didnt feel very private but hey ho.
The first pessary was inserted at 10am and i was monitored for 40 mins to check baby was ok. I absolutely hate the internals as find they hurt quite a bit, i thought to myself that i will never cope with labour if i find internals so painful :(
OH went to the car to get my bags whilst i was hooked up to the monitor.
After being monitored for 40 mins we were told that we can go for a walk around and basically just wait to see if anything happens but was told that usually the first pessary doesnt work.
We walked round the hospital but i was struggling to walk far as my bump hurt so much so we just sat in the cafe for a bit and walked back to the ward.
We read magazines and did the crosswords from the magazines lol, anything to keep us entertained and then for another walk.

I had a few pains but nothing major so at 4pm the midwife came to give me the 2nd pessary, the midwife was so rough i thought she had damaged my lady garden lol, i was praying the 2nd pessary would work as i really didnt want to stay over night and for my OH to go home. The MW tolld me i was 2cm dilated when she inserted the 2nd pessary. At about 5.30 i started getting a burning pain at the bottom of my bump, OH went and got me some dinner which was served on the ward, i hardly ate any as werent feeling hungry so OH ate it.
By 6.30 the pain was just horrible, i really thought the midwife had done some damage because of the burning pain i was getting at the bottom of my bump, i went to the desk and asked for some stronger pain releif but all she would give me was paracetamol. I really didnt expect the pain to feel the way it did, i didnt expect it to burn lol.
By this point i had pulled the curtain round as i wanted privacy but i had to whisper to my OH as i didnt want the other ladies to know how much pain i was in, i was wondering why the other ladies were just sat on their beds reading or watching the tv whilst i was in so much pain, why werent they in so much pain? It turns out that their pessary hadn't worked yet and mine had.
I started to loose the plot and said to OH that im not sure how i will cope if this is only early labour. I just wanted to be in my own room and not on a ward, OH suggested we go for a walk but there was no way i was going anywhere feeling like this, i could hardly walk. I just didnt know what to do with myself and OH kept telling me to calm down, so glad i had him there as he was amazing with me. He just wanted to take the pain away but couldnt.
So he suggested i have a bath which i thought would take my mind off the pain, he ran me a bath and told me to try and relax and he would come back in 15 mins, when he came back he had to wash me and then get me out as i couldnt get out.
By 8oclock i begged the MW to check me again as i was desperate to leave this ward and go to labour ward where at least i would have my own room.
The MW checked me and said i was 3cm dilated and could now go to labour ward where i could have what ever pain releif i want..Yay.
I went to the toilet first and when i came back OH had packed all my stuff up and we were ready to go, when we got to labour ward i was told they were just having a shift change and my mw would come in soon.
About 15 mins passed and the MW hadnt come in so i asked my OH to get someone because i really needed some pain releif.
So i just laid on the bed on my side and started rocking as i found this eased the pain. The MW came in and started me on gas and air (great stuff) :)
I was rocking for about 20 mins whilst sucking on the gas and air everytime i had a contraction when all of a sudden i felt a pop and then my waters running out. By this point i just felt really drunk. I said to my OH that i think my waters have just gone, he replyed saying no they havent, so i said check inbetween my legs, he had a look and said oh yeah so they have....Duh thats what i just said, He went back to get the MW and she came and mopped me up but they still kept leaking.

So every contraction i was using the gas and air and the contractions were very painful but the burning i had earlier had stopped i think, it was a differnt pain now. I was loving the gas and air as it really helped with the pain but about an hour later, i think it was about 9.30 but i wasnt really checking the time, the pain was getting worse and coming more often, the MW suggested i have some pethadine so i did, i really wanted to avoid the epidural if i could so i thought the pethadine would be enough, it was great to start with, i just felt completely wasted ha ha. but once it wore off the pain was really bad again, by this point it was 12am and the mw did an internal and said i was 4cm....i was very disappointed by this as i knew i had another 6cm to go and the mw said i should dilate a cm an hour so i thought i will be ready to push in 6 hours, there was no way i could cope with this pain for 6hours. It turns out the mw was wrong because i was actually fully dilated by 2.45am which is why i was in sooo much pain because i was dilating very quickly.
So because the mw said it will be another 6 hours i asked for the epidural, the epi was great but didnt last long, the mw was about to leave us so we could get a couple of hours sleep whilst i was pain free but all of a sudden the baby's heart rate started dropping so the doctor was called in, they wanted to take a blood sample of the baby's head so they had my legs in stirrups and were basically making a small cut on the babys head to get some blood so they could check the blood to see if he was ok, this was taking forever and at one point i had about 7 people in the room, all looking at my lady garden whilst my legs were in stirrups....Nice!!! Tbh i didnt really care as just wanted my baby to be ok.
They tried about 4 times to get a blood sample but they could not get one and when my baby was born he had cuts on his head :(
Anyway after all this the pain started to come back thick and fast and the epi was not working, my left side was in agony and i was crying in pain, they said that because of all the different positions they were getting me in the epi had stopped working on one side, i cried out a few times but OH said i did really well in labour. At one point i could hear someone down the corridoor screaming there head off. I said to my OH that im glad im not making that much noise, but then before i know it another contraction hits me and it feels like one side of my pelvis is on fire. They tried to adjust the epi and top it up but nothing was working. 30 minutes later and alot of painful contrations,The doctor checked me and said i was fully dilated and could now push. I gave one push but as soon as i did the baby's heartreate was dropping even more and they all looked really worried, the doctor said i would need to have an emergency c section and they started taking my night dress off and put me in one of their gowns, the doctor said that i would need to be put to sleep for the c section because the epidural wasnt working and there was no time for a spinal block as the baby'needed to come out quick. I felt so scared at the thought of being put to sleep whilst my baby was born, i looked at my OH and he also looked scared and i told him to look after our little one if anything happens to me and i don't wake up.

So i was rushed to theatre put to sleep and when i woke up my gorgeous little man George was there by the side of me.
My OH said it was the longest 45 mins of his life waiting for George to be born, he couldnt be with me when i was put to sleep so he waited in another room and he said as soon as he heard George cry he burst into tears.

Ok well if you got this far well done as i know its a long one and thanks for reading :)

I was never scared of giving birth just didnt really know what to expect, i found it to be such an amazing experience, i just wish i could of had him naturally as i had already done all the hard work and made it to 10cm, but the main thing is that George was ok.
I said i would prefer not to have an epidural but i realised that you don't win a medal for not having one and it did help with the pain but unfortunately the epidural didnt work for long anyway so i did most of my labour with just gas and air and pethidine.

George was born on 19.04.11 at 3.21am and weighed 8lbs 3.5oz
