So, just to recap, my last posting on here was a couple of weeks ago when I was telling you guys that I had by TTC for over 1 year appointment with my Doctor and was supposed to be starting Clomid next cycle. Well DH’s semen analysis came back as less than 0.01 – under 5 motility – plus abnormalities. She called me and told me not to bother taking the Clomid because there is no chance we are going to get pregnant on our own. She called me and told me yesterday, so I had to tell DH on Valentine’s Day for petesakes. We had to cancel our dinner plans  I tried to sound like it wasn’t a big deal, but I couldn’t keep the tears from sliding down my face the entire time. DH is very healthy- not overweight- doesn’t smoke – doesn’t drink heavily - gets more than ample vitamin C and has been taking fertility blend for the last few months…not sure what else we can do…

I was so sure that it was finally going to happen after reading so many Clomid success stories that I have spent the past few weeks window shopping for nursery furniture. I just never thought that the semen analysis results would be so bad. I made an appointment for DH to see a Urologist at the end of the month. I guess at least I can stop temping every morning and all the other crap that we have been putting ourselves through for the past year

What are we going to do now? Could it just be an infection or something?

Has this happened to anyone else?

I didn't want to read and run, but I'm afraid I cant offer any advice because I haven't been in the situation, but needed to give you a big :hugs:

It's terrible terrible new to get (especially on valentines!), and I can't imagine being in your situation, but a tiny little positive of this situation is now you can work on moving forward from this point and come up with a plan of action. I am not saying in any way this is the outcome you wanted, of corse it wasn't, but now you know what the problem is, you can work on getting it fixed :flower:

I am no expert on this, but I would imagine that options such as IUI and IVF would be the most suitable for your situation, where they can take viable sperm from your DH and put it to good use :winkwink:

Have you got another appointment with your FS coming up? Make sure you and DH take time to research the paths you would be interested in going down and take lots of questions with you, and the best of luck with everything! Keeep us all posted :flower:

Hi I hope you don't mind me crashing your thread... Is this a specialist of just your GP that told you this? Also dh had two bad SA with low morph and motility, he is healthy weight etc teetotal non smoker etc so it came as a huge shock. I can't remember the exact numbers sorry!
At our first consultant appt we were told we had very little chance of conceiving naturally and she talked to us about IVF with ICSI. I was devastated to say the least, she then sent me away for testing and I saw a different consultant for the results. She prescribed clomid and I got a BFP first round. Basically what I'm trying to say is 'It only takes one good sperm- I know at the time I was told that it didn't help me but it may not be as bad as you think.
SA are notorious for changing- it takes about 3 months to make sperm so it could be thatthis lot was just a bad batch. Your dh should be tested again as it could be that he had an infection of that the vitamins hadn't kicked in?
Good luck xx

It was my OBGYN that ordered the test for him and called me with the results. He is going to do a second semen analysis with the Urologist at the end of this month. What I am worried about is that his results were pretty much as bad as they could be really. Hopefully it is something that can be fixed. We have talked about it and would do IVF, IUI and sperm donation...just discouraging because of all the additional $$$ a time and what if after all of thet there is something wrong with me, or it just doesn't work .. =/

I know I'm being a little dramatic, but when you are trying to be positive for your DH and you keep things a secret from your family and friends it feels good to vent on here...lol

Congrats on your BFP - gives me hope for same :)

I'm so sorry hun :hugs:

Like the others have said, it only takes one sperm xxxx

There are a lot of successes with ICSI and IVF. You need one good sperm, just don't give upo xx

Sounds like your on the right track with a second SA. Hopefully things will improve. My DH SA improved from 8.5 mil to 15 mil only 4 months later. I think motility & morph stayed about the same (40% and 5%). It is still considered low but my FS keeps reminding us that at least he is producing sperm so there are options. The IVF with ISCI is probably the best option but it is expensive. There have been success stories with IUI with MFI and that is relatively inexpensive. Donor sperm is very inexpensive but you want to save that option as a last resort. There are lots of options out there so keep each other positive :)

I received similar news on Monday. Dhs first s/a was in October and it showed high count, very low motility and viability and high white blood count. He was put on antibiodics. The 2nd s/a was done Monday and it showed improved motility, LOW count, and still high white blood cells. We are going to a urologist next week. We were going to do IUI but now we need to get this taken care of first. It's so confusing but at the same time I think male factor is usually easier to treat.

We got similar news, not that low, but first things first, get your DH into a urologist ASAP. He may be able to find out why it's so low, and it could be something that could be fixed. My husband went to his urologist last week, it gave me a little bit of hope. Sometimes I feel like fertility specialist jump to IVF too soon, but thats just my opinion. My husband was prescribed Clomid, we plan to do one more month of trying on our own, then moving to IUI in March.
