Grapefruit seed extract

Hi all. Has anyone used grapefruit seed extract? I had an appointment with my midwife this morning and she was promoting it as a natural antibiotic, disinfectant and water purifier amongst other things!

Has anyone used it and does it work?

We've used Citricidal for years, which is the main 'brand' for it, I usually get it on ebay but occasionally see it in health food shops. I use the liquid (I put a few drops in my morning drink - it tastes really bitter!) OH takes the tablets. We up the dose if we ever get colds or anything. I think it really helps as we are both very healthy
When we went travellign in india a few years back we took some with us and took loads of it, and put some in food sometimes! Apart from a couple of days when I got bad diarrehea, we were totally fine and hadnt had a single jab or anything to go.
