Hi ladies,

Just wondering if anyone else experienced this. My daughter is three months (2 months adjusted) and she makes amazing eye contact from a distance or if she's lying in your lap. She's smiley and won't stop staring at me. She also makes great eye contact while feeding. What's odd though is that when she's sitting up in my lap or being held, she won't make eye contact, even if you try. Anyone else experienced thus? Do you think it's a vision problem (close up things) or just too much to see? Just curious really. I would be worried, but she makes such good social eye contact and smiles so much the rest of the time, that I'm not too concerned. I am a little worried it might be a vision thing.

Thanks.

My son is the same. Sometimes he'll make eye contact if I talk to him but most of the time he's far more interested in the curtains, coffee table.... Pretty much anything that's not mummy, lol. If your concerned, there's no harm in talking to your GP but I try and see it from my DS's point of view. He sees me all the time and at this point I'm just food, everything else is so new and we all know LO's love exploring and learning :)

I am no expert and not sure if there is something specific about that to be concerned about but it seems like if your LO gives eye contact at other times it is probably normal! My DD is great at eye contact but once in a while if she is enjoying looking around, if someone puts their face in front of hers she will avoid looking at them no matter where they move their face to. Once in a while she will finish off by finally making eye contact and giving a cheeky grin .so I don't worry! As you said might be that your LO has too much to see!

I googled this a while ago and apparently its very common and is usually because they feel a little over stimulated. My babies just grew out of it.

Idk my son has always been like this too...still kinda is. Will make a lot of eye contact with me if hes walking around, sitting somewhere else, being held by someone else. But if I'm holding him he wont very often look right into my face and will just look at whatever is around us. I'm assuming its not a problem since hes very social even with strangers/makes eye contact a lot just not to the person holding him lol
