Green Poo

Since breastfeeding my little girl has had the typical mustard seedy poo's. but for the last few days shes had a few green poos, I'd say for every 4-5 yellow ones she'll have a 1-2 green ones.

I've read this can be too much fore milk and not enough hind milk so I've been keeping it to one breast per feed. Sometimes her feeds last 10 mins some times 30-45 mins.

She has gained 8oz's in the last week so they are happy with her gain. She's now 7lb 15oz's and her birthweight was just under 7lb 4oz. She's 18 days old.

Can these green poo's be normal? Behaviour is no different. She seems a little snuffly today but its not affecting feeding or sleeping?

Should I be worried? Really enjoying breastfeeding (ff DD1) and I'm happy with her weight gain but worried about the green poo? Any advice?

Thanks so much for reading x

I believe it is ok, and as you say, too much fore milk. I reassured myself that not every poo was green, only occasionally, and I concentrated on getting her to feed for longer on one boob. If you're still worried, I'm sure consulting a health professional will do no harm, I spoke to my health visitor who reassured me that it was normal and getting more hindmilk would sort it out!

Good luck :)

We have a greenish poo or two each day mixed in with a few other yellowy ones.

I have a lot of milk so it doesn't surprise me.

As long as we get yellow ones too I've stopped stressing the greeny ones.

DD is gaining well so that's what matters to me. :) xx

Unless it's a constant issue (many green in a row) I wouldn't worry or change my breastfeeding patterns. Sometimes if the baby goes longer between feeds such as sleeping longer the milk has more foremilk.

Thanks so much for the replies. Ill stop stressing for now and keep on with encouraging longer feeds :)
