Just thinking about longevity, Blankets will obv. last longer than grobags, which can be grown out of, but they have a lower risk of CD... So that kinda outweighs everything,

Ohh, IDK... :S

Im sticking with blankets. I dont like the idea of a baby wriggling under the bags. Blankets i read its best to put baby with feet at the end of the cot so theres nowhere to wriggle to. Also the bags will take longer to get dry and are more difficult to make warmer in cold weather or cooler in hot weather etc. Just down to personal opinion i think.

Yhh, Your thinking along same lines as me i think, i guess im just drawn to the grobag idea... :S But I really like the easiness of blankets... Just too many choices! lol

We use bags but have a couple of blankets for backup I would not be without mine as we gotthe travel ones so we can move straight from cot to car to buggy without constantly unwrapping sleepy children. I understand thout they are not suitable for smaller babies but mine was over 10 lb so was not an issue

@pippa..

How do you find the bags? Is there enough room for little one to kick about and stuff... I think I jsut need that little bit more convincing about the grobags... Like if i was in a shop it would be possible to "sell" me them... But im shopping online so I'm a little be.. Urhmm....

And If I wasn't to use the Grobags, how many blankets would you think I need?

i use both. Grobag on and then swaddle in a blanket for warmth :) Feet to foot and no chance of wriggling anywhere  :)

I swaddled my baby's when they were little, so didtn use a grobag. I think they are fantastic tbh and used it fairly early on with my ds after he was past the 'newborn' phase. They have little buttons for small baby's that are under the arms to stop any wriggling. If you buy an actual grobag, it should give you a guide as to what baby can wear under it. I have never used a blanket with them. You usually put a stretch suit or just a vest under them depending upon how warm the room is. Make sure when you buy one that you adhere to the weight of your baby. I dont think they make them for baby's under 7lbs but that may have changed. They really are fantastic and definetly worth buying. x

With my first I used blankets I had 4 sheets and 3 blankets specific to the moses basket I normally have 3 sleep bags 1 wear 1 wash 1 spare in case of accident. I find them great my toddler has only just stopped using them when he moved into a big bed. I love them as there is tons of room for wriggling without being able to kick them off I have seen a few being sold on also. When he was tiny I preferred the ones that unzipped flat as it made changing nappies inthe night easier if u don't want to spend the extra on a travel one if you are good at sewing it is fairly easy to put a velco hole part way down the skirt area. It is all personal preference but I can not recommend them enough

Hmm... Still not sold I don't think.. You think I be worth going into a shop..? LOL! Sounds silly! Haha!

Yea u can see them pretty much anywhere tesco etc though they do vary a bit. Or u could get one if u use it get more if not e at it and recoup your money

Yh Thats true, I may as well get one and see how it goes, I could find that LO loves them and doesnt like blankets.. :)

This itme around I'm getting swaddlecloths to start with and a blanket, then when theyre a bit bigger some gro-bags (TK Maxx - they're cheap).

At the moment dewi is in a sleepsuit and a 2.5tog sleepbag. When it gets colder I'll put him in a vest too. We have a ferw blankets too incase it gets colder still. lol.

I have to say that having a grobag gave me peace of mind that i wasnt overheating my son. I had a grobag egg too that would tell me the temperature in the room. Between that and the temperature guide, i felt that my baby would be at the right temperature.
I think its very true that a baby tends to kick off the sheets and then they can become cold and wake during the night. Maybe use blankets/swaddle at the beginning and then use the grobag once they are a couple of months old. Thats what i did.

My son always used to kick his blankets off, and I never heard of grobags/sleepbags until recently so I will definately be using them this time.

We used blankets when Amelia was first born for the first couple of months as we swaddled her to make sure she was always warm and cosy.

Then it was summer so we continued to use light blankets, and using x amount of thin layers rather than thick layers depending on how hot it was, then when it got to September/October onwards we used Gro Bags as we always knew she was going to be nice and warm up until may time and now she has a toddler duvet.

I believe they are definitely worth while during the winter months it saves lots and lots of stressing

If I can Ask, How old was she when "summer" began, Roughly, Im due in april, so Im now thinking, Swaddle for the first few, then it will be summer(?) so Light Blankets, Then Winter comes and get a GroBag - Obv, It should then last a little longer too..?

well DD used both, but she's terrible with blankets, so gro-bags were a lifesaver! in the really cold nights she couldnt kick off the whole lot of covers - we did put blankets over the top when it really got cold but she always managed to get rid of them!

will be using them again this time too

Amelia was born on 15th April and we stopped swaddling by mid june because we had quite a mild summer that year, so she was roughly 2 months old.
We had a temperature monitor in our bedroom and we always found it helpful.
And we got plenty of wear out of our grobags, I think they are fantastic for wriggling babies!!
